‘It’s near impossible to conjure a more devastating public relations gaffe for a team that over the years has endured its share of image management issues (aligning itself with the ethnically insensitive phrase “Bills Mafia,” for instance).’

O.J. Howard on his first training camp with the Bills: ‘It was a lot of growing pains for me’
‘“It was a lot of learning experiences for me,” Howard said of his training camp and preseason. “Being in a new offense, just being able to be put in a lot of different situations, a lot of positions, just learning different calls and picking up on alerts – that was good for me. I think as training camp went on, I got a chance to play faster and kind of learn the terminology a lot better. So, it was a lot of growing pains for me, but I’d rather them happen right now than later on during the season.”’
Safety Jordan Poyer prepares for Bills season opener: ‘I expect to be out there’
‘“It was pretty scary,” Poyer said. “Really wasn’t sure (until) I got the MRI results what it was. Was just kind of nervous all the way up until then, hoping it wasn’t too serious, but just got the MRI results, and saw I was gonna be able to recover from it, and that’s what I was excited about.”’

Erik Brady: 40 years later, remembering the Whammy Weenie. Yes, that was a real thing
‘Bells sold these seven-inch green Weenies for 49 cents apiece, though they were free if you spent five bucks on your groceries. (Today they sometimes sell for $50 online, if you can find one.) The Weenies were plastic hot dogs with beads inside that rattled when you shook them. A Bells news release of 1982 said they made “a sound like a pint-sized marimba band has arrived in Buffalo to help the Bills go all the way to Pasadena,” site of that season’s Super Bowl.’

Nothing has changed for Bills’ Jake Kumerow after 8 NFL seasons; he’s still fighting for a spot
‘“I feel like I’m in somewhat of a similar position every year trying to make sure I secure a spot,” he said on Monday, one day before final cuts are due to the league. “It really just comes down to your effort at practice to me. If you’re a guy that can come every day and be consistent with your effort, then that’s all you can control. You can’t control what plays they call for you or how many catches you had. Just what do you do when your opportunity is called. Go hard, that’s it.”’

It’s a devastation to the community, it’s a devastation to families. … We’re here to stand with them and to support them.”’

BYU dallied. The Bills waffled. Then public shame forced them to act.
