‘“That’s great, I take a lot of pride in what I do,” he said. “I’m going to be ready to step in any role that the team needs. We’re just ready because it’s a long season. Things happen. It’s not just going to be me. There’s going to be other guys who need to step in and play all different kinds of roles. I’m happy to be at peace in the bigger picture.”’

Bills Notebook: Leslie Frazier still wants to see more from rookie cornerbacks Kaiir Elam, Christian Benford
‘“We have a pretty good feel for Dane, and he’ll get some work before the preseason is done, I’m sure,” Frazier said. “He’s played games for us. His experience matters, although (it) is limited in the grand scheme of things. But for us, he’s ahead of the rookie corners that we have. We just needed to be able to see them more.”’
Confidence is soaring for rookie linebacker Baylon Spector after impressive Bills debut
‘Counting special teams, only offensive lineman and sixth-round pick Luke Tenuta played more snaps (67) than Spector (64 total, 50 on defense) against the Colts, and Spector made very good use of his time. He was in on nine defensive tackles, batted down a pass, and had a sack wiped out by a penalty. He also made one tackle on special teams.’
The Bills are getting plenty of reps for their young corners
‘Leslie Frazier said he knows what Taron Johnson and Dane Jackson can do, so he wanted to see the rookies, “We wanted to take a good look at the young corners. We have a pretty good feel for Dane and he’ll get some work before the preseason is done, but we wanted to get as many views of our young corners as we could and it’ll be the same way in these final two preseason games. We need to get a real good evaluation of the two of them.”’
Opinion: One down, two to go
‘Dane Jackson didn’t play against the Colts, which makes me wonder if that means he’s won the job already. It’s also possible that the Bills wanted to get both rookies – Kaiir Elam and Christian Benford – plenty of game reps and valuable on-field lessons.’
Elam, Benford among those continuing to make strides in Bills secondary
‘“We were pleased with their first outing. So now with the practices we have remaining, along with the two preseason games you want to see them continue to grow and develop,” says Frazier. “And we got to keep putting them out there in different situations to see how they respond.”’
James Cook continuing to show promise with high expectations put on him
‘“When you come from where we come from, prepare like how we prepare it’s kind of expected. But he’s doing a great job and taking everything in and working hard,” says Bills running back Duke Johnson. “His skill set and the way he works, the kind of guy he is. It’s who he is. And we expected that.”’
Bills WR Isaiah Hodgins making a strong case to earn a roster spot
‘Hodgins has had a tough two seasons in the NFL so far, constantly battling injuries. The Bills drafted him in the sixth-round out of Oregon State in 2020 but he never saw the field his rookie season. He missed all of that year with a shoulder injury. Then when he thought he was good to go, he suffered a knee injury in the preseason opener last year and missed most of 2021. He was active for the game at New England because Cole Beasley and Gabe Davis were out because of Covid. But Hodgins only played four offensive snaps in that game and still is looking for that first catch as a pro.’

‘They can stream the Bills-Colts game through the new NFL+, as well as fuboTV (free trials of each service are available).’
Josh Allen enters rarefied air with third edition of Josh’s Jaqs cereal
‘But of all the products they’ve launched throughout the years, the only one to ever live beyond a second release was Doug Flutie’s “Flutie Flakes,” which had an initial goal of selling 10,000 boxes and instead surpassed 3 million.’
Leslie Frazier impressed with rookie cornerbacks
‘”For the most part, their eyes were where they needed to be in zone. So we were pleased with their first outing and now with the practices that we have remaining along with the two preseason games, we have to allow them to grow and develop and we have to keep putting them out there and putting them in different situations to see how they respond. Even though you are doing good things now, just know there is a big bullseye on a rookie corners chest, there are more things thrown at you, we are trying to throw more things at them this time of year but there is nothing like being in game situations.”‘
Towering Bills rookie Luke Tenuta making his athletic family proud
‘“I thought it was the coolest thing- getting to hang out at the facility at a young age, going to bowl games, going to practice, talking to all the players,” said Tenuta. “Just getting around those guys I was like ‘I can not wait to be a football player,’ that was my goal when I grow up.”’
Bills rookie LBs helping each other succeed
‘“It all jumped on us so quick in the spring. We were like, ‘All right. To get this, we’re gonna have to work together and share what we know’,” Spector said. “It came along pretty quick.”’
Leslie Frazier: Bills rookie corners Elam and Benford progressing well
‘“When they had opportunities to make plays, they made plays. They were physical, they got their hands on balls, they were good in man coverage. For the most part, their eyes were where they should have been in zone. We were pleased with their first outing,” said Frazier.’
Bills Today | A South Florida RB connection + Quessenberry adds experience to O-line group
‘”We have a fantastic running back room and one of the best quarterbacks in the league,” Quessenberry said. “The receiver room is stacked. The tight ends are fantastic. It’s very dynamic. But there’s the same goal – to put that ball in the end zone every time we step on the field.”‘
