‘”We definitely interviewed some other guys and got some different perspectives,” said Beane. “But in the end being able to keep so many things the same for Josh was important. Part of our plan when we got started was continuity for Josh, from the coaching staff, the organization, the plays, the protections. Even though we’ve got a new O-line coach, we don’t have to change all the protections. He’s coming in to kind of learn our system. The more we can keep the same for Josh, the easier it will be to assimilate. Ken (Dorsey) is going to have his own nuances, everybody does, to how they do things. But a lot will be the same.”‘

Sean McDermott explains how the new coaching staff will help rebrand the Bills in 2022
‘”I think just seven (new coaches) or more in one season is a little bit unique in my experience, not only as a head coach, but as a position coach in Philadelphia and in Carolina,” McDermott said on the podium at the NFL Combine. “But again, going through it, it gives you a chance to kind of reset and rebrand a little bit and then try and make things better.”‘
Clock running on a new Bills stadium deal
‘But opponents of that decision are championing a location in downtown Buffalo with a dome, an alternative supposedly preferred even in a survey commissioned by the Bills. It would cost about a half-billion dollars more than the Orchard Park site and would be completed two years later. There are also several other arguments against it. One is that some 300 homes would have to be displaced to build it and another is the inevitable inner-city, game-day traffic nightmare.’
NFL Combine begins, evolving to balance needs of players, league
‘An initial push to have a strict bubble was abandoned last week, after agents reportedly pushed back in hopes of making sure players could have full access to their support teams. Players are now permitted to leave the Combine area at their own risk, according to an NFL memo. Masks are required for in-person interviews and medical exams, but are otherwise optional.’
Extension for Stefon Diggs tops ways Bills can save loads of salary cap space
‘Stefon Diggs ($17.9 million). Diggs has two years left on his contract, signed with the Vikings in 2018, which averages $14.4 million a year. The wideout salary rankings get a little complicated because Arizona’s DeAndre Hopkins ($27 million) signed just a two-year extension. He’s No. 1 on the list. No. 2 Julio Jones ($22 million) of Tennessee is playing on a restructured three-year deal. The precise average for a Diggs extension would be less important than the guaranteed money. Jones got $66 million guaranteed when he signed with Atlanta. The bottom line for 2022 is Diggs’ base salary is $12.5 million. By converting most of it to bonus and stretching it out over four years (via a three-year extension), the Bills could save a lot. Giving him a four-year extension would drop his 2022 cap further. Savings: $7.55 million.’
Bills will not play in NFL international games in 2022; Buffalo in play for 2023 game
‘On Monday, the NFL announced that the Arizona Cardinals, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, New Orleans Saints, Green Bay Packers and Jacksonville Jaguars would all be hosting international games in 2022. The Cardinals will host the Mexico game, the Buccaneers will host the Munich game and the Saints, Packers and Jaguars will each host a London game. Among the teams hosting games in 2022, Buffalo is only in line to play the Packers, but that game will take place in Orchard Park. That means the Bills are out as a potential road team in any of these matchups.’
Opinion: Capaccio: 2022 State of the Bills – Defensive Tackle
‘There are two really big questions facing this position group in the short-term. One, should the team move on from Star Lotulelei, who is still under contract for two more seasons? Two, should they re-sign Harrison Phillips, who is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent?’
