‘The optimistic view of the Bills’ offseason to this point is that it has been sensible. Operating within the confines of being tight up against the league’s salary cap, Beane’s first few moves have been logical, and predictable. He’s cut veterans Jon Feliciano, Daryl Williams and A.J. Klein for cap space – all justifiable moves given their salary and role on the team. Of the three, only Williams ended the year as a starter, and while it would have been nice to have him back, he was priced as a tackle and not a guard, which is where he ended the year.’

Report: Bills cornerback Levi Wallace to sign with Steelers
‘Wallace started all 19 games for the Bills last season, including both in the postseason. He finished with 58 tackles, 10 passes defensed, two interceptions and one fumble recovery in the regular season. He played a career-high 994 defensive snaps, and quarterbacks had a 72.6 passer rating throwing against him, completing 47-of-81 passes for 470 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Because he played opposite White, Wallace was at times overlooked by fans and targeted by opposing quarterbacks who were wary of throwing against the All-Pro on the other side. Although he’s not the biggest cornerback at 6-foot-0 and 179 pounds, Wallace never backed down from a challenge and was a willing tackler.’
Running back J.D. McKissic to sign with Bills, per reports
‘McKissic, 28, can serve as a pass catcher in the Bills offense, which should see some new wrinkles under offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey. McKissic entered the league in 2016 with the Falcons, and also played for the Seahawks and Lions before his last two seasons with the Commanders.’
A closer look at the contract for new Bills defensive tackle Tim Settle
‘Settle will receive base salaries of $1.035 million in 2022 and $3.055 million in 2023, along with a $250,000 roster bonus payable on the fifth day of the 2023 league year. Additionally, he has per-game roster bonuses of up to $255,000 in each year of the deal ($15,000 per game), along with a workout bonus of $50,000 both years. He can also make up to $800,000 each season if he reaches incentives for sacks, although the trigger number to hit is not known.’
Bills promote defensive line coach Eric Washington, add Mike Shula to offensive coaching staff
‘Shula will be reunited with McDermott and Bills offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey in Buffalo. They all worked together in Carolina, with Shula serving as the Panthers’ quarterbacks coach in 2011-12 and then the offensive coordinator from 2013-17. Dorsey worked as Shula’s quarterbacks coach with the Panthers from 2013-17. During that time, Carolina quarterback Cam Newton was named to two Pro Bowls and won NFL MVP in 2015, the same year the Panthers advanced to the Super Bowl.’
Buffalo Bills free agent tracker, Day 2: J.D. McKissic signed to be third-down back
‘Tuesday, the second day of the legal tampering window where teams can work out free agent deals with player agents, Beane turned toward a skill position in an effort to give Josh Allen another weapon to work with. The Bills agreeed to terms with running back J.D. McKissic on what is a reported two-year, $7 million contract.’
Buffalo Bills reportedly sign RB J.D. McKissic to 2-year deal
‘Next season will be McKissic’s seventh year in the NFL. He went undrafted in 2016 out of Arkansas State and went on to play in 19 games for the Seattle Seahawks in three seasons. He went on to play with the Detroit Lions for a year before finding a nice home in Washington, where he broke out as a pass-catching option for Ron Rivera’s team.’
5 thoughts and a grade on Buffalo Bills signing RB J.D. McKissic
‘Singletary was one of the best backs in football over his final 10 games of the season. He’ll enter training camp and the season as the Bills featured back. But after him it’s going to be McKissic who gets the next set of touches. He’s firmly in the 2-hole on the depth chart after the Bills spent big backup money for him. Just think about this: Last season they signed Matt Breida to a one-year deal for the vet minimum. Brandon Beane liked McKissic so much that he splurged and gave him $3.5 per season at least.’
Bills are going to be even scarier with J.D. McKissic (National media reactions)
‘Now in Buffalo, one of the most pass-happy offenses in the NFL, McKissic should get even more opportunities to haul in passes.’
Former Alabama coach gets new NFL job
‘By joining the Bills, Shula reconnects with Buffalo coach Sean McDermott. They worked on the Carolina Panthers’ coaching staff together from 2011 through 2016. McDermott was Carolina’s defensive coordinator for those six seasons before leaving to become Buffalo’s head coach. Shula was the Panthers’ quarterbacks coach in 2011 and 2012 and offensive coordinator from 2013 through 2017.’
