‘“I feel so good about Aaron in terms of the level that he’s coached at as an offensive line coach,” McDermott said at the NFL Scouting Combine. “You know, a big, big emphasis for us is protecting our quarterback. And you guys know why. I don’t need to tell you why. So making a big-time hire at that position was important for me this offseason, so that those players are developing the right way. And I know Aaron’s had a track record of developing players at that position. And I expect that he’ll do a good job for us.”’

Combine Observations: Sean McDermott, Brian Daboll downplay any talk of a rift
‘“Great four years at Buffalo with Sean, Brandon (Beane) and the support staff,” he said. “A very special place to me. Obviously, I grew up there and I’m very grateful for the opportunity that those guys gave me. I loved my time in Buffalo and appreciated Brandon and being around all those people and, obviously, this was a head coaching opportunity, so it was something I’ve strived for for the past 25 years.”’

Bills’ Sean McDermott had ‘no issue’ with Brian Daboll; talked new offensive coaching staff at combine
‘“We’ve won a lot of games and through that there’s conversations that take place that they get hard, right? Not every conversation on good teams and thriving teams, like we’ve been, are going to be easy,” McDermott said. “But no I had no issue with Brian.”’
NFL Draft 2022: Mel Kiper’s latest mock has Bills addressing defensive interior
‘With free agency looming, Wyatt, a versatile defensive tackle that can play at the 1-tech or 3-tech position, makes plenty of sense. Harrison Phillips and Vernon Butler are both set to hit free agency. The latter is likely not in the team’s plans, but it’s possible that Phillips returns after a strong 2021 campaign.’

Sean McDermott: ‘Unrealistic’ to expect Mitchell Trubisky to return as backup QB for Buffalo Bills
‘”It’s hard to handle a situation where you’re coming from basically a career starter to being a backup. That’s a totally different dynamic,” McDermott said. “When somebody else is in front of the microphone a couple lockers down from yours, I thought Mitch Trubisky handled that extremely well, as good as anybody could have handled it.”‘
Bills GM Brandon Beane’s odd praise for Mitch Trubisky: ‘A marry your daughter type of guy’
‘Well, that’s one way to say that Trubisky has a good personality and is a good teammate. But what about his play? That’s the bigger question for Trubisky as he prepares to hit free agency.’
McDermott: “change is good once in a while”
‘“Change is good once in a while,” McDermott said while speaking from a podium to a large gathering. “It’s different. I think there’s different perspectives that are brought to the table. New ideas. And I think that continues to challenge the norm and the standard, and I think that’s healthy. With that, though, comes some challenges of building that team that is within the overall team. So the staff, to me, represents a team within the team. The chemistry on the staff, getting people on the same page with how we’re teaching, whether it’s fundamentals, our offensive playbook, our defensive playbook, special teams, that’s critical, because then you’ve got to teach it a certain way and I think all of those little things lead to success on the field.”’
Opinion: 2022 State of the Bills: Linebacker
‘The Bills currently have seven linebackers on their active roster, and every one of them is under contract for the 2022 season. That’s great news, but does not mean there aren’t decisions to be made.’
7 Buffalo Bills takeaways from the NFL Combine
‘”I don’t want to be a one-year wonder. I don’t want to be a team that has one or two years at it and then we need to watch 10 prominent players walk out of here because we can’t do it. I want to be a consistent contender. And listen, I thought we had a team that could contend.”‘
