MAQB: The Bills Are Now the Class of the AFC

‘The Bills did more than beat the Chiefs at Arrowhead on Sunday night—they put together a dominant effort in hostile and inclement conditions that forcefully puts them at the front of the class in the AFC. And they did it with a pretty unique mix of players. One word that’s been raised to me by multiple people in the building in the aftermath of the rout of the Chiefs is unselfish, and there’s example after example of that quality popping up the last couple of days. In some cases, it’s established stars passing the spotlight on to teammates who may go unnoticed in a big week last the last one was in Buffalo.’

‘“This was unusual, but for this opponent, it was the right thing to do,” Frazier added. The more we studied Kansas City and their offense and just watching Mahomes and how he operated versus pressure, it just created a lot of problems for defenses because of his ability to see things and identify them early and make you pay for bringing pressure.”’

‘”Throughout the week of preparation, we believed in ourselves, we believed in our teammates, and we believe in the way we go about things,” Poyer stated. “Obviously last year left a bad taste in my mouth so we wanted to come back and play well today. We had a great week of practice, and coach put us in position to make plays. Micah got a pick-six. Greg got a pick. Just some big plays in the game. Siran’s fumble on the kickoff. There were some big plays that we had today to keep us in the lead.”‘

‘Mahomes never seemed comfortable in passing situations, wasn’t able to stretch the field and turned the ball over three times. He was intercepted twice, one a “pick six” by safety Micah Hyde, who went 26 yards for the score, the other by rookie defensive end Greg Rousseau, who used his long arms to tip a pass to himself deep in Buffalo territory. Mahomes also had a good shotgun snap slip through his hands with cornerback Tre’Davious White recovering. The fourth takeaway was recovery of a fumble on a kickoff return.’
