Why consistency is key for the Bills 2021 special teams unit
‘”I just trust our guys,” Farwell said. “We have as good a group as anybody. … And I really wanted to focus on the continuity, especially with Matt [Haack] coming in here. I’m not trading holders for Bass and trying to figure all that out.”‘
Bills and Josh Allen agree to terms on a six-year contract extension through 2028
‘Allen, who just turned 25 this year, rewrote the Bills single-season record book in just about every passing category in his third NFL season in 2020. He broke single-season franchise records for touchdown passes (37), completions (396), completion percentage (69.2), 300-yard games (8), passing yards (4,544) and total touchdowns (46) as he finished runner-up to Green Bay’s Aaron Rodgers for league MVP honors.’
Josh Allen has more to prove after signing a historic contract extension
‘”It’s definitely a spot where it’s surreal to be in right now,” Allen shared. “I’m just thankful that we could get it done and now we can focus on going out there and earning it. And making sure they understand that I know they didn’t pay me for what I’ve done. They did this because they expect me to continue what I’m doing and expect me to go win this team some championships.”‘

5 players to watch during the Return of the Blue & Red training camp practice
‘Ike Boettger started out training camp on the Reserve/COVID-19 list but was activated from it on Thursday. The coaching staff wasted no time and Boettger was back in the lineup practicing at full capacity. The lineman played in 15 games and started 10, including playoffs, last season. Both marked career highs for Boettger, as he has served as a key depth piece for the Bills offensive line. Boettger looks like he hasn’t missed a step since he’s been back at camp. The game experience he received last year should provide a confidence boost for the fourth-year player.’
No joke: Isaiah McKenzie in line for big role with Bills
‘McKenzie has steadily increased his production in each of his three seasons with the Bills, going from 18 catches for 179 yards in his first year to 30 catches for 282 yards and an impressive five touchdowns last season. Those numbers don’t tell the whole story of McKenzie’s usage, though, as he might have led the team in yards run. Daboll frequently uses McKenzie as a decoy on jet-sweep action, which has led to a reputation – fair or not – of him being a “gadget guy” for the offense.’
Training camp observations: Jake Kumerow adding to logjam of Bills’ receivers
‘He has made a habit of looking good in the summer. His standout day started in one-on-one receiving drills. Kumerow caught a deep ball down the left sideline, making a difficult, contested catch against Tre’Davious White on a good throw from Josh Allen. Then he got good separation on White on a pass over the middle and stretched his long arms to make a good grab.’
Jake Kumerow superstar-like at Bills camp Thursday: Is he earning more than roster spot? (7 Observations)
‘Kumerow made the most of his opportunities last season with the Bills, showing what he can do in special teams and then making a highlight reel moment with his one target of the season. The 29-year-old got to play some receiver against the Denver Broncos in December and caught a 22-yard touchdown pass. That was enough for the Saints to grab him before later releasing him. He found his way back to the Bills and stuck around this offseason because of how much he loved it in Buffalo.’
Kumerow continues to stay hot at Bills camp
‘Twice in the 1-on-1s, Kumerow was matched up against Tre’Davious White. The All-Pro cornerback had excellent coverage on him both times, yet Kumerow made grabs on perfectly thrown balls from quarterback Josh Allen on each.’
Bills WR Isaiah McKenzie taking advantage of every opportunity that comes his way
‘”It means the coaching staff upstairs, they got a lot of faith in me and I don’t want to let them down,” McKenzie said. “Each and every day I try to get faster. I’m pretty confident in my return ability and I want to get better each and every day. So I just want to capitalize off that, keep making plays back there when I can, show the coaches what I can do, show my teammates what I can do, and just keep going from there.”‘
Bills specialists seeking continuity over competition
‘”I trust our guys. I believe in our guys. And I really wanted to focus on our continuity,” special teams coordinator Heath Farwell said. “Let’s just make sure I’m not trading holders for Bass, you know? [I’m] trying to figure all of that out. You know, let’s get really comfortable.”‘

Isaiah McKenzie ‘in the driver’s seat’ to be Bills primary return man
‘“He’s in that number one spot right now, he had a great return last season. We’ve seen him in the past doing it and there’s nothing that shows anything different now,” Bills special teams coordinator Heath Farwell said before practice on Thursday.’
