‘Although offensive tackle does not jump off of the page as a need for the Bills, the team needs competition behind starters Dion Dawkins and Daryl Williams. Veteran Bobby Hart was the favorite to be the team’s swing tackle, but Brown may give him a run for his money as a rookie.’

5 thoughts and a grade on Buffalo Bills drafting Northern Iowa OT Spencer Brown
‘The upside of this pick is undeniable. Look at teams that are trying to add franchise tackles at the tops of drafts. The Bills likely won’t be there for the foreseeable future. So getting a high ceiling mountain to develop and play the slow game is smart roster building from Beane. NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein wrote in his scouting report for Brown that he has “foot agility and explosiveness to make all the move blocks” and “all-day block finisher who’s hungry for pancakes.” If Brown can turn into a balanced, savvy blocker in both the pass and run game, this grade will have to be raised a full letter in time.’
Bills 2021 NFL Draft: Spencer Brown joins Bills Mafia by jumping through table
‘The table never stood a chance. At 6-feet-8-inches tall and 314 pounds, Brown probably could have Hulk smashed the table standing up. Instead, Brown came off the top rope (or outdoor chair in this instance) and dropped an elbow that would have made the Macho Man Randy Savage proud.’
Greg Rousseau a top-10 talent, steal for Buffalo Bills, says Manny Diaz
‘“You never know how these opt outs are really gonna go,” Diaz said. “It’s funny that he went to Buffalo because I had an inkling that if he was going to fall because of the opt out or who knows, maybe he would fall at the end to a team that is really built to win and a great culture and a great organization and an organization that would normally not be able to pick a player of Greg Rousseau’s caliber because he should be going much, much higher. And to see a team like Buffalo recognize an opportunity I think is great for the Bills and I know it’s going to be great for Greg.”’
Bills 2021 NFL Draft: Buffalo adds ‘gifted player’ in Greg Rousseau (Report card grades)
‘Rousseau also checked another important box for the Bills: Production. The defensive lineman recorded 15.5 sacks and 19.5 tackles for loss as a redshirt freshman with the Miami Hurricanes in 2019. Following his breakout season, expectations were high for Rousseau in 2020 but he opted out due to COVID-19 concerns. That opt out and a pro day performance that did not leap off the page led to Rousseau falling down the draft board and into the Bills’ lap.’
Sullivan: Finally, most of NFL trying to catch the Bills
‘There it is. Beane made it fairly clear that the Bills approached their first-round pick with an eye on what’s going on in the rest of the AFC, particularly at the quarterback position.’
Wake Forest’s Carlos ‘Boogie’ Basham drafted by Buffalo
‘Batham tested positive for COVID-19 on Nov. 24 and missed the team’s Dec. 12 game at Louisville. He opted out of Wake’s bowl game, a loss to Wisconsin in Charlotte.’
Northside grad Carlos Basham Jr. of Wake Forest drafted by Buffalo
‘The 6-foot-3, 274-pound Basham became the first Timesland graduate to be chosen in the NFL Draft since his third cousin Tarell Basham, a former Franklin County High School and Ohio University standout, was taken by Indianapolis in the third round in 2017. Tarell Basham played for the New York Jets last season and signed with Dallas last month.’
Buffalo selects UNI’s Spencer Brown in third round, 93rd overall
‘Brown was so happy to get that phone call, he immediately had to pay tribute to the Bills nation by crushing his mom’s folding camping table by leaping on to it from a chair, mimicking a tradition dating back to 2004 where Bills fans started leaping and destroying tables when their team needed to run the table to make the playoffs.’
UNI’s Spencer Brown picked by Buffalo Bills in NFL draft
‘After arriving at UNI in 2016 as a tall, slim tight end who starred for the 8-player Tigers, he added nearly 100 pounds to his frame and developed into a 6-foot-8, 311-pound right tackle.’
2021 NFL Draft: Northern Iowa’s Spencer Brown selected by Bills in third round
‘The 6-foot-9, 313-pound offensive lineman generated only a handful of scholarship offers — none from any true heavy hitters. He came to Northern Iowa as a tight end but transitioned into the offensive line. Brown shined there as a three-year starter and a second-team All-Missouri Valley selection in 2019. He started 28 of the 29 games of his sophomore and junior seasons including the last 18 of his career.’
Bills Double Up On DEs With Basham; Take OT Brown At 93
‘Short of putting 12 defenders on the field to contain Mahomes, as Beane joked last week, the Bills general manager did the next best thing by doubling down in selecting edge rushers with Buffalo’s first two picks of the NFL draft.’
Buffalo Bills Land Miami Hurricanes Defensive End Gregory Rousseau With First Draft Pick At No. 30
‘What you notice first about him is his great length. Described as having a “Gumby-like frame,” he’s long and lean at 6-6 and 266 pounds with 11 1/8-inch hands. He’s such a good athlete that he played a variety of positions in high school, including wide receiver.’
Bills select Wake Forest defensive end Carlos Basham Jr. 61st overall
‘Basham Jr. weighs in a 6-foot-3, 274 pounds with a ton of experience playing for the Wake Forest Demon Deacons. In four years at Wake Forest, Basham Jr. notched 20.5 sacks, 173 tackles, 4 forced fumbles, and 3 fumble recoveries in 45 games.’
Basham Jr. drafted by the team he uses on Madden
‘“They’re definitely a hard-nosed defense,” Basham Jr. said. “…even when I play Madden, I play with the Bills. The defense is something I really love, I’m glad I’m a part of it now. That was the main thing I was thinking about when it was first going through my head. It’s a dream come true.”’
