Feel-good story a year ago, Bills’ Christian Wade eager to be much more

‘“I had been through so much throughout the year,” Wade said. “I had my head down the whole time, didn’t really see my family at all, because I was over in Florida, or when I got signed, I was with the Bills. ‘For every jaw-dropping catch down the field Knox made, there was a brutal drop on passes that were “gimmes” if you will. According to Fox Sports, Knox had the third most drops in the league with 10. Now keep in mind drop statistics vary from platform to platform, but the point remains the same. The drops can’t continue if Knox is going to be a featured weapon on offense moving forward.’

‘We saw Allen’s decision-making and turnovers rear their ugly head again in the team’s playoff loss at the Houston Texans, so he’s far from where he needs to be. But the turnaround he had after week five was pretty remarkable. Now, with what’s expected to be an even more aggressive offense with the addition of Stefon Diggs, Allen will have to continue on that path and keep that consistency over a full season for him, and the Bills, to take the next step.’

‘”For a couple of reasons,” Hazell said by phone. “One, he is a great team player. He’s out on the practice field every single day, trying to make his teammates better, whether it’s encouragement, whether it’s competitiveness. But he loves his teammates and he wants those guys to be at their highest performance every time he takes a step on the field. The second thing is, he is an absolute competitor. He doesn’t want to lose in anything, any drill. He was always first in line. I never, ever, ever had to ask him to work. He always came to work every single day when we hit the practice field.”‘

Bills Mailbag: Preseason power ranking of the AFC East

‘I’d rank the AFC East this way at the moment: 1. Bills, 2. Patriots, 3. Jets, 4. Dolphins. I’d be higher on the Jets if they weren’t coached by Adam Gase and Gregg Williams, two of the bigger bozos in the league. I’m not writing off Sam Darnold yet, though, and the Jets have some real talent on defense. Miami’s rebuilding plan is on schedule. The wild card, of course, is whether Tua Tagovailoa develops into the franchise quarterback. That’s at least a year away, though.’

‘I’ll say the acquisition of Stefon Diggs is worth a field goal a game, which would put the Bills at 22.6 points per game. As Mark pointed out, that would have ranked right smack in the middle of the NFL last year. In order for them to move up into (or at least close) to the top 10, Josh Allen will have to take a big step forward and the offensive line will have to improve – two big “ifs.”‘

I tie it in with my affinity for throwing the football,” Allen told The Buffalo News last summer of playing golf. “I think it’s very similar, what you feel when you throw a good pass and when you hit a good golf shot. Obviously, when I’m throwing the ball, there are a few different variables. A guy is trying to tackle me, placement of the ball, things like that. Then when you’re out on the golf course, it’s wind, elevation. There are a lot of things that go into that, too, so I put it in that same context.”‘

You hear all these crazy stories in the media and I think he’s had a bad rep where he was at.”’
