Did the Buffalo Bills err by not drafting Patrick Mahomes?

‘Unlike 2018, when it was clear the Bills were looking for a quarterback, there wasn’t that same level of certainty in 2017. The Bills had a new head coach running things and Doug Whaley, the team’s general manager, was about to be fired. And it’s easy to forget that while Mahomes was still available at No. 10, so was Deshaun Watson. It was Watson, not Mahomes, who was mentioned as a possible Bills draft pick.’

‘While there were areas of improvement Allen obviously still has room for growth. Ball security was an issue early in the season and came back again in the final month of games. Like most young quarterbacks he needs to be better when pressured. Allen’s numbers were not great when pressured whether it was from a three man rush, four man rush or a blitz. He needs to stay calm, try and see there field and make the right play as opposed to spinning around and looking lost.’

‘The top three wideout prospects are widely viewed at this early stage to be top-20 picks. They are: Alabama’s Jerry Jeudy, Oklahoma’s CeeDee Lamb and Alabama’s Henry Ruggs. Other potential first-round underclassmen are: LSU’s Justin Jefferson, Clemson’s Tee Higgins and Colorado’s Laviska Shenault Jr. The latter three all have the kind of size that would look good in the Bills’ offense. Jefferson is 6-foot-3, 192. Higgins is 6-4, 205. Shenault is 6-2, 220.’

‘Heading into this offseason, some believe the Bills should look to add yet another tight end. I’m not as convinced. I think they have the kind of mix they want and that can be effective, especially with Kroft growing another year. Also, considering the money they spent on Kroft and Smith last offseason, paired with using two draft pick assets on Knox and Sweeney, including trading two fourth rounders to move into the third round for Knox, its hard to see them using even more premium assets and cash on the position again this offseason, especially with other more pressing needs.’
