Buffalo Bills Three-Point Underdogs To New York Jets In Week 1
‘Defense is the Bills strength, especially against the pass. But defensive lineman Ed Oliver will be one of the keys as Buffalo looks to improve its pass rush. Last year, Buffalo ranked No. 26 in pass rushing. All signs point to a low-scoring game because the Jets are under a new scheme and will be much more blitz-heavy under Gregg Williams. Look for Josh Allen to be under pressure all game. For the Bills, they are counting on defensive lineman Ed Oliver to be a major disruptor, but he wasn’t spectacular in the preseason. He is highly touted, but he is still just a rookie.’
McKenzie: ‘We can do a lot’ this season on offense
‘”Last year, I came in late in the season and saw a lot of potential in the room with Zay [Jones], myself, Robert Foster, Cam Phillips and those guys. Coming into this year, [the team] added John Brown, [Cole] Beasley and Andre Roberts, and I felt like they’re older guys that have been in the league enough that they know the ropes to the game and know how to play the game. I felt like for all the young guys that are behind them, [we’re] just learning from them and getting everything we can by picking their brains. I feel like they’ve taught us so much this offseason that going into the season, the young guys are pretty prepared and ready to play ball. They’ve brought a lot of juice to the room and a lot of knowledge to the room.”‘
Will the extreme makeover pay immediate dividends?
‘There are reasons to feel optimistic going into Sunday’s opener against the New York Jets but obviously the Bills have to prove they are a much improved offense. The line should be better than it was last season although there is some concern up front. First and foremost, Mitch Morse has to stay healthy. He was the big ticket pick up in the off season and he should be a big part of that new look line making the Bills a better running team at the very least. I’m also worried about the lack of time the five starters got as a unit due to Morse and other player injuries as well as the shifting of rookie Cody Ford between guard and tackle. Sean McDermott didn’t rule out the possibility of doing that with Ford during the season. So much for identifying the best five guys and playing them.’
Allen: “There’s a lot to prove”
‘“The guys we have on this team, we’re very hungry. We’re not going to talk a lot,” said quarterback Josh Allen. “We’re not going to be in the media a lot. We want to focus in and play the best football we can and win as many football games as we can.”’
Bills player fights through wife’s struggle with cancer
‘“She’s doing good right now”‘ said Peko. “She’s four rounds of chemo in. She’s got eight more left.”’
Deadline approaches for entry into Buffalo Bills bus and limo lot
‘“We’ve gotten very good feedback from fans that are opting into the program,” said Andy Major, vice president of operations for the Bills. “They’ve come to games in the past, they’ve seen what was going on in the past. They’re happy about the changes. they feel like it’ll be a positive difference maker from a fan behavior standpoint , and then there’s others hat don’t want to participate, they maybe don’t ant to give it a chance.”’
Bills add DT Vincent Taylor to practice squad
‘To make room on the practice squad for Taylor, the Bills released TE Nate Becker.’
6 key matchup points for Bills at Jets | Scouting Report
‘Jets head coach Adam Gase also plans to use tempo as a weapon with his offense, where they’ll hurry up to the line for quick snaps on plays during certain series based on down and distance and location on the field.’
Bills Today: OC Brian Daboll has confidence in running back room
‘“They all have roles and what those roles are, I think, will be defined by what you can do on a week to week basis,” Daboll said. “But, they are all smart. Obviously, some guys have a lot of experience, some have some and some have none. The three guys we have, we have confidence in them.”’
Bills rebuilt O-line gets stout test out of gate vs. Jets
‘“Week One holds challenges for every team,” said Bills center Mitch Morse. “We’re going against a very good defensive front and a very good defensive coordinator.”’
Time for Bills’ QB Josh Allen to show he’s ready to make big year two jump
‘Sunday will serve as a strong indicator. Although it’s only one game, it carries added weight because of the divisional rivalry. The Bills and Jets are widely seen as having the best chance to finally leapfrog the New England Patriots for the AFC East crown. It’s more likely, of course, that they’re playing for second place and a wild-card spot. Either way, the outcome will prove significant.’
Bills linebacker Matt Milano ‘ready to rock’ against New York Jets
‘“It’s always bad when you can’t finish out the season with your team, not only myself but just to help the team out, so I’m trying to get back to where I was last year,” he said. “We’ve got some juice going into the first game, everyone is communicating, flying around, ready to make some plays, so we’re excited.”’
Cody Ford appears to be Buffalo Bills starter at right tackle
‘For a while in the preseason, Ford was playing right guard and Ty Nsekhe was at right tackle, and it looked like that might be the best way to open the season. That’s how they lined up to start the preseason opener against the Colts.’
Andre Roberts may miss Buffalo Bills opener against New York Jets with quad injury
‘As for who would be deep on kickoff and punt returns, Buffalo Bills coach Sean McDermott said, “We’ll just see. We’ve got guys that can do it back there, so we’ll see how today goes.”’
