‘”I put the ball in a couple of spots where it shouldn’t have been,” said Allen, who completed a career-high 24 of 37 passes for a career-best 254 yards. He had two interceptions and a pair of fumbles in the first two quarters. “We got lucky with some and some we didn’t, went the other way.”‘

Bills’ defense responds in tough times: ‘We’re built for this’
‘“It’s kind of weird,” safety Micah Hyde said. “When the offense turned the ball over a few times, the defense would huddle up before we went on the field, and dudes are smiling, like, ‘Hey, we’re built for this.’ Kind of like a weird-type smile. There are some creepy, crazy dudes on this defense, and we take pride in those opportunities.”’
Jay Skurski’s observations: ‘Motor’ Singletary provides offensive spark in come-from-behind win
‘“I went in feeling comfortable,” he said. “We prepared for this moment.”’
John Brown’s chemistry with Josh Allen shows on winning TD
‘“It was just a double move, and the defensive guy had great position on the ball,” Brown said of Jets cornerback Darryl Roberts. “It was supposed to be thrown over the top, but the guy took the top off of it.”’
Quarter by quarter: Bills overcame big odds in comeback victory
‘Cole Beasley let a short pass over the middle bounce out of his hands. It caromed into the arms of Jets’ linebacker C.J. Mosley, who returned the interception 17 yards for a touchdown.’
Bills Report Card: Comeback earns offense passing marks; defensive grades shine
‘After watching Singletary in the second half, it’s easy to ask offensive coordinator Brian Daboll why he wasn’t more involved early in the game. Clearly, the game plan was to attack the Jets’ weak secondary, but here’s the thing – it didn’t work.’
Sean McDermott after win: ‘We were expecting a 12-round fight’
‘On resiliency: “What a blessing to be part of that group in there.”‘
Bills pull off a stunning rally to beat the Jets 17-16 in season opener
‘It was a minor miracle that the Bills were even in this game, let alone able to win it, after a first half of offensive football that could only be described as tragic.’
Maiorana: Defense was dominant for Bills and Josh Allen showed why his teammates love him
‘“I always say give us 17 points,” the safety said Sunday afternoon as he dressed with a knowing smile splashed across his face following the Bills’ 17-16 come-from-behind victory over the New York Jets. “This is not anything the defense has talked about; it’s just my personal belief with the defense we have, you give us 17 points, we can work from there.”’
Roth: Resilient Josh Allen shows mental toughness with another game-winning drive
‘Left to digest some good, some bad and a whole lot of ugly.’
Bills report card: Buffalo was mocked all game until impressive comeback against Jets
‘Full credit to defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier as his group played an outstanding game in limiting the Jets to 223 yards and a 3.4-yard average per play. The defense kept the Bills in the game and eventually, the offense emerged from its coma and did its part to deliver the victory. Offensive coordinator Brian Daboll made it clear that he wanted to get Allen on a roll and he called 18 straight pass plays to start the game before settling into a more balanced approach in the second half. When he started to get Singletary involved, that’s when the Bills’ offense took flight because his big runs also allowed Allen to look downfield a bit more, particularly on the game-winning 38-yard TD pass to Brown.’
Fourth-quarter magic gives stunning win to Buffalo, 17-16, in opener
‘It was an unexpected win in the season opener, a bit lucky to be sure, but a hard-to-miss show of character for a Buffalo team that seemed doomed to start the campaign with an embarrassing loss.’
Late heroics by Allen helped him outplay Darnold
‘“We were moving the ball well (167 yards to the Jets 104 before intermission) but I put the ball in a couple of spots where it shouldn’t have been. We got lucky with some and some went the other way. But our defense was playing fantastic and we knew we were going to have a shot in the second half.”’
Buffalo shakes off first-half turnovers in Week 1 rally
‘The second turnover occurred when an Allen pass went through the hands of wide receiver Cole Beasley and was picked off by linebacker C.J. Mosley, the free agent from Baltimore, who returned it 17 yards for a “pick six.” Later, Mosley recovered an Allen fumble on a 4th-and-1 play. Finally, late in the first half, an Allen pass was deflected by New York defensive lineman Henry Andereson and intercepted by linebacker Neville Hewitt.’
Josh Allen leads 4th-quarter comeback; Buffalo Bills stun Jets, 17-16: 5 instant observations
‘The Bills barely ran the ball in the first half and rookie running back Devin Singletary didn’t get a carry until the second half. But when he finally got the ball he made the most of his opportunities. He looked like the No. 1 running back out on the field, breaking off a couple big runs to get the Bills offense jumpstarted after a scoreless first half. He carried it just four times but broke up multiple big runs and finished with 70 yards rushing. He added five catches for 28 yards in the passing game, proving to be a reliable target for Allen in the short passing attack.’
