Tremaine Edmunds made quite the impression on Panthers coach Ron Rivera
‘“It was kind of neat first-hand to watch him. We ran a screen against them. It looked like it was going to pick up some pretty good yardage, and he was able to break through and run it down and keep it about four yards. I think the young man is on his way to being one of those types of players that can be with a team for 10-12 years and be an impact guy for a long time.”’
Bills’ Wallace is fighting off all challengers
‘Wallace doesn’t just listen to the coaches. He said his mentors on the team are Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer. Even though Munnerlyn has only had three practice, Wallace said he’s already learning from him, “Adding Captain had definitely helped us a lot with his experience and I’ve already told him I took a play out of his rule book, just his technique is really good, so having guys like him to learn from is really good.’
Allen, Bills offense has strong showing against Panthers on Wednesday
‘Right next to that was Josh Allen making similar types of throws and plays to get the Bills offense down the field. I was impressed with Allen‘s ability to see and diagnose the defense, then get rid of the ball quickly and on target. He took what the defense gave him and recognized what that was before the snap.’
Daboll happy with how the offense is coming together
‘”This is like a little bit more of an up-tempo [practice]. We try to practice with good tempo. That’s our standard, what we like to do. Obviously when you get in against another team, it kind of ramps up a little bit more. [We want to see] continual improvement, make good decisions, throw the ball where it needs to be thrown, and get us out of bad plays. It’s things that he needs to do every day.”‘
Baldinger: The Bills can be ‘a top-10 defense’ this year
‘“The one thing I would say under Sean McDermott is that they play better than the sum of the parts, meaning they really play as a team,” Baldinger said with Jeremy White on WGR. “That’s the coach’s dream. I think they can be a top-10 defense at the end of the year. I think they do a lot of things really, really well.”’
Bills stadium gets visit from assembly speaker
‘”I’m absolutely supportive of the Bills staying here [in Western New York],” Heastie said. “Beyond that, I spoke to the Bills ownership and there’s still an open question as to what they want to be done. Until that point comes, I don’t know how to answer [specific] questions other than to say I’m supportive of the Bills being here.”‘
Tremaine Edmunds picking up things from Panthers LB Luke Kuechly
‘”He’s big, he’s athletic, he runs, he’s long, he’s like the perfect body type for this defense,” Kuechly said of Edmunds. “McDermott’s got a great defense and I think he’s gonna thrive in it.”‘
Bills DE Shaq Lawson invites kids from foundation to attend practice in Spartanburg
‘Defensive end Shaq Lawson is from South Carolina and on Wednesday, he had dozens of kids from the Shaq Lawson Foundation attend the team’s joint practice with the Carolina Panthers. All of the kids are from the Carolinas and some of them don’t have father figures. Lawson said he needed a mentor like that when he was a kid and that’s why he wanted to give back.’
Allen, Bills Offense Finding Rhythm
‘“I never thought we were far off from the beginning, and caught on pretty quick,” said Beasley. “I have some option routes and right out of my break it’s there. Whenever you have a quarterback who can do that you have a lot of opportunities after the catch and I told him that today. I was awesome to see that today from him.”’
Edmunds Finds Value In Working With Kuechly
‘“He’s big, he’s long, he’s athletic,” said Kuechly about Edmunds. “He did a really good job last year, and I think this defense is set up great for him. The biggest thing about a guy like him is he wants to learn and I think as a young guy to come in with that attitude is the best way you can be and he’s got a great coach in Coach Babich so the sky is the limit and I’m excited to see what he does this year.”’
4 Observations from Bills/Panthers joint practice Wednesday
‘Wide receiver rotation. The Bills starting offense used a bunch of different combinations. Cole Beasley, Zay Jones, John Brown, Robert Foster, Andre Roberts, and Isaiah McKenzie were the six wide outs who worked with the starters during the 11 vs 11 periods. McKenzie and Ray-Ray McCloud seem to be in a tight battle for the 6th wide receiver job.’
Panthers see growth in Josh Allen
‘“He has better control of the offense now. More command of it,” corner and former Bill Ross Cockrell said. “He’s changing plays at the line of scrimmage. He’s trying to get his offense in the best position possible. I think he’s showing a lot of maturity.”’
Shaq Lawson thrilled to give back in homestate
‘“I had older guys doing the same thing for me when I was younger,” said Lawson. “I told myself as a kid ‘If I get the opportunity to do it, I’m going to do the same thing.’ It’s special because I’m back home. It feels like a family reunion, sort of. It feels special having so many kids I know and don’t know look up to you.”’
Top 3 things to know from Bills-Panthers joint practice | Day 2
‘Among the most eye-opening plays was the one turned in by Bills MLB Tremaine Edmunds, who dropped into man-to-man coverage on Panthers TE Greg Olsen about 15 yards, flattened out to the sideline and was able to knock the Cam Newton pass away and shove Olsen out of bounds for an incompletion.’
