‘“We are still trying to find out what roles, what things they are really good at, what things they can and can’t do,” said Allen about his new teammates. “That’s going to be a learning process throughout this training camp. We are just trying to look to improve and get better, and every day we are going to go out there and learn something new about each other.”’

Bills’ second-year LB Edmunds joins second-year QB Allen in leadership role this season
‘“(There are) a lot of guys that I can trust,” said Edmunds. “I think that’s the biggest thing, you want guys out there that are going to keep your trust. Your brothers are out there, that’s what we are so, you know, just playing as a unit, everybody playing together and everybody communicating and just going to work. Got a lot of play makers out there, a lot of guys who are going to make plays so we just have to make them.”’
Bills talk a good game when it comes to keeping training camp at St. John Fisher
‘“We really appreciate what St. John Fisher means,” said McDermott. “The campus, the people and the hospitality that they extend here to us. As it relates to building our team, it’s important that we can go away and build some fellowship time off the practice field as much as on the practice field and come together as a football team.”’
McCoy, Gore Get Bills Off And Running To Open Training Camp
‘At 36, Frank Gore refused to let what he called a “cramping” issue prevent him from taking part. Gore was activated off the non-football injury list upon passing his physical a few hours before practice.’
Offensive line competition in full swing as Bills open camp
‘Ideally, they’d love to have the unit set and know what they’re looking at by the time the third preseason game rolls around, but they also don’t want to jump the gun and make the wrong decision somewhere. There’s likely to be a heavy rotation throughout camp, especially the first two weeks before they play their first preseason game August 8 against the Indianapolis Colts. We may even see some players rotating every single day between the first and second team, much like last year they did at center with Russell Bodine and Ryan Groy.’
Allen “understands” the expectations heading into year No. 2
‘“This comes with a territory, I understand that,” Allen said following the first practice at St. John Fisher College. “Listen, I love football, I love what this game entails, I love everything about it. I love being a Buffalo Bill, I love being here in Buffalo. I love this team and I love being a part of this team so that pressure doesn’t really seem so heavy when you think about it that way. When you have guys around you that are going to do their job and that’s where the communication and the comradery and everything that we worked on in OTA kind of applies to camp and we continue to build on that and get into season, it’s very fluid and we got a good thing going here.”’
McDermott hoping to build more continuity throughout his lineup this season
‘”Brandon [Beane] and I have said it over and over again, we believe in going away to camp,” McDermott said in a press conference with the Bills general manager before Thursday’s practice. “We really appreciate what St. John Fisher means and the campus, the people and the hospitality they extend here to us. As it relates to building our team, it’s important that we can go away and build some fellowship time off the practice field as much as on the practice field and come together as a football team. The gaps in the schedule offer us an opportunity to do that.’
Beane: ‘We want to be trending up’ this season
‘”LeSean’s here, he’s part of this team, and we’re looking forward [for him] to be the first guy out to take the first handoff or pass, whatever is called. I think he feels the competition, which is good. Competition is good for everybody. I think the positive is that there’s a lot more competition and depth at [running back] than there was a year ago. He knows what’s ahead of him, he knows he’s got to produce, and I expect that he’ll be able to answer that challenge.”‘
Expectations high as Bills begin training camp
‘“I also think what we feel like we’ve done is address the quarterback position and some other areas that we thought we needed to improve, like the salary cap. We are in a much stronger position as we go into 2019 and beyond. It’s all been part of the plan Sean and I have had since we got here and we are on track. We are still trending, but we got a lot of work to do.”’
Allen & Edmunds take reins as leaders for Bills
‘“Obviously being in those positions, the quarterback is going to be a leader, the middle linebacker is going to be a leader,” Allen said. “And, the lucky thing me and Tremaine have is each other, we understand where each other are coming from, obviously being in the same draft, the same class, and being the same kind of person just on the other side of the ball, we’re able to talk about that, we talk to coach a lot and we talk about what things we want to get across to the team, and that’s only going to get better as time goes on.”’
New year, new feel for Allen at training camp
‘“It’s extremely different knowing that I am getting the number one reps, whenever the ones are out there, those are my reps,” Allen told reporters after practice on Thursday. “Going back to last year, I don’t know, maybe I’m getting a couple threes or two here or there, and maybe switched into the ones here or there, just the feel that getting those reps are extremely crucial for quarterback.”’
McDermott enjoys leaving OP for training camp
‘“As a family, you get to know a lot about your family by going on road trips. I remember piling into that station wagon years ago on that 20 something hour drive from PA to Iowa to see my relatives and I think we learned a lot about our family on that trip,” McDermott said. “No different here. We’re a family and I believe you learn something from these unique experiences that brings you together and brings you closer as a football team. That’s where I stand right now.”’
Quick Hits: Frank Gore cleared to practice, Kroft making progress
‘The news concerning TE Tyler Kroft is a bit different. Kroft, who broke his foot in the spring which required surgery, was placed on the active physically unable to perform list earlier this week. “He’s basically just out right now,” said head coach Sean McDermott. “He’s making progress. He’s done a great job this offseason getting himself to where he is right now.”’
Top 3 things to know about Day 1 of Bills training camp
‘“Coach explained to us why in our meetings (last night),” said Josh Allen. “Typically games are won or lost inside the red zone and in the two-minute drill. We started off in two minute and then went heavy in the red zone. That was just kind of starting camp on the right note. Everything happens a little quicker in the red zone. There was some good and not so good today. It’s the first day of camp. We have a lot of practices to get some of these things fixed up. Communication was big for us and I thought as an offense we jelled and communicated really well.”’
8 players explain how the Bills culture has evolved during the Sean McDermott era
‘“Our culture is pretty strong where guys now know what’s expected in terms of the time you need to put in and the way that we have to operate every day to get where we want to get,” said Tre’Davious White. “And the new guys coming in, it’s clear to them how we work because they see it from us who have been here and they just kind of fall in line.”’
