15 observations from Bills’ spring practices
‘If Allen doesn’t markedly improve his completion percentage, it won’t be because of scheme. The Bills had him throwing a lot of quick passes all spring to get the ball out of his hands. His accuracy on short throws was generally good. But spring football doesn’t prove anything. A lot of a quarterback’s accuracy depends on his ability to recognize and read the defense. If a quarterback is unsure of where to go with the ball, he’s often throwing a beat late, and that’s when you get incompletions.’
Buffalo Bills: Six observations from mini-camp
‘Of course Allen is still far from a finished product, but some of his metrics last season were awful, and he will need to be much better if the Bills hope to contend for a playoff berth because he’s the hub around which the wheel spins.’
LeSean McCoy says he begged Frank Gore to join Buffalo Bills
‘“Like he said, we’ve actually been friends before he got here. We train together. I’m always constantly trying to find a way to improve my game. Look for motivation. Who not better to learn from than Frank? I actually was begging him to come. You know, two years ago we were trying to get Frank. Coach asked me would I like to play with him, I said, ‘Yeah!’…”’
LeSean McCoy isn’t threatened by all the running backs Bills brought in
‘“In this league, in general, it’s always competition,” McCoy said. “I’m a type of guy, I thrive off off having a big name. So when guys come to my team, they’re curious to see, ‘How is LeSean McCoy? Is he still a good player?’ I mean, I’m a dominant player. I think that speaks for itself. But I’ll be in the same role as last year. And I look forward to putting some numbers up and bouncing back from that last season.”’
Bills’ Allen targeted what he wanted to get better at this spring
‘Allen has always seemed to work well with offensive coordinator Brian Daboll. He said Ken Dorsey joining the offensive staff has also helped him, “I feel like I’ve done a good job. I’ve had a lot of great help around me. Dorsey, having him here has been a great addition. Having the eyes of Matt and Tyree and Shea and Coach Daboll. we’ve all been doing a great job in the quarterback room of seeing things and relaying things to each other and that open line of communication that we have has been awesome. It’s going to continue grow and continue to get better and hopefully we will see some results on the field too.”’
Sal’s AFC East position battles: Running back
‘The Bills might have the most depth of any team in the division, but a lot of questions at the top of that depth chart, and most of them are about LeSean McCoy.’
Beating Murphy’s Law
‘”He just looks like he’s in a different mental space,” Sean McDermott said. “Another year removed from where he was last year when we first got him here and there’s a lot that goes into that. Trent’s a better one to ask.”‘
How veterans and alumni play a key role in rookie development for the Bills
‘“After going through a tough year last year of just onboarding new players, a new approach had to be undertaken,” McDermott said. “I think the best teams, businesses do it well, but I’m not sure everyone does it. We’re all trying to find the competitive advantage.”’
Bills Today: LeSean McCoy’s motivation for the upcoming season
‘“I think it will be pretty big,” McCoy told Jones. “We have a new offensive line. We paid some money there and guys (are) looking good, working hard together. We have a young quarterback who is making plays. You know, me and Frank together, we’re a duo.”’
