‘“Russ had a fractured fibula. He had surgery (Monday),” said McDermott. “We expect a full recovery. He’ll be out for the season, but the surgery went well as planned. We’ll get him back some time this offseason.”’

Why Josh Allen is already in rare company plus 4 observations from Week 13 in the NFL
‘“You don’t want to tell him to not go through his reads, but that’s part of his progression really,” said head coach Sean McDermott of Allen’s runs in Sunday’s game. “When he did it, when there wasn’t separation (by receivers on routes) or when he had time to get out, he got out and used his legs.”’
Bills Today: These Bills earned spots on PFF’s Team of the Week
‘While PFF writer Gordon McGuinness was impressed with Allen’s arm strength in the loss, it was the rookie’s legs that really made him take notice.’
You can blame Clay for drop on potential game-winner
‘It hit Clay, totally alone, in the hands … that’s all you need to know.’
Vic Carucci: Plenty of blame for Bills’ loss, but Josh Allen’s progress unmistakable
‘On the plus side, Allen made some significant strides in his second start after missing four games with an elbow injury. In what arguably was his best full game of the season, he completed 18 of 33 passes for 231 yards and a pair of touchdowns to Zay Jones. He also had two interceptions, although one came on a desperation throw at the end of the first half.’
Bills’ Jerry Hughes confronts official then denies it happened
‘“I lost the game so I’m supposed to be angry. We just played our butts off for four quarters and we came six inches short of winning the game. I think myself and a lot of Buffalo Bills fans are upset right now. That’s the nature of playing sports. Someone is going to win and someone is going to lose.”’
Jason Wolf: Bills’ Josh Allen proves he’s the leader this franchise needs
‘And he continued to impress with the way he handled the loss, shouldering full responsibility for the Bills’ offensive shortcomings on a day when plenty of their fans’ fingers were pointing elsewhere.’
Quarterly Report: Shawn Hochuli’s crew leaves a lot to chew on
‘Rafael Bush was flagged 15 yards for a personal foul on Tannehill on the opening drive. The hit forced an incompletion. It was a dubious call. Bush didn’t lead with crown of helmet, but he kind of slammed Tannehill to the ground simply from the force of the hit.’
Jay Skurski’s observations: Bills offense can’t overcome special-teams’ miscues
‘It was a horror show on special teams Sunday for the Buffalo Bills.’
Plays that Shaped the Game: Bills penalties overshadow elite plays
‘You could argue their penchant for flags has cost them two wins this year. They made 10 penalties for 104 yards in the loss at Houston. They made 13 for 120 in in the 21-17 loss to the Dolphins.’
Bills-Dolphins Report Card: Pass defense slips up in Buffalo loss
‘Just about nothing went right. Stephen Hauschka missed an extra point and 55-yard field. Isaiah McKenzie muffed a punt after his teammate bumped into him, leading to a costly turnover. Andre Holmes took a penalty on the second-half kickoff that backed the team up. New punter Matt Darr was the only bright spot. He punted four times for a net average of 44.3 yards. His protection nearly let him down on one of those, but he was able to get the punt off.’
Josh Allen had quite a crazy day, but Bills lose 21-17 to Dolphins
‘But as has been the case in the past, when the defense really needed to rise up and take care of business, it failed, and Buffalo suffered a frustrating a 21-17 loss to the Dolphins.’
Maiorana: Josh Allen showed why he can be Buffalo Bills’ franchise quarterback
‘“Great” is going too far, but Allen was pretty good, and he was the main reason why the Bills had a chance to win. Once again, he made mistakes, and once again, he showed why the Bills picked him No. 7 overall in the draft and believe that he’s going to morph into the franchise quarterback Buffalo has for so long lacked.’
Bills continue to tinker with offensive line, Sirles starts for injured Miller
‘The 6-foot-6, 315-pound Sirles will play right guard, with rookie Wyatt Teller staying at left guard. Just a month ago, the starting guards were Miller and Vlad Ducasse, and Ryan Groy was the primary interior backup. Things have changed dramatically.’
Report card
‘This was a sloppy effort in so many ways, and in the end, all of the mistakes cost the Bills dearly. There were some missed opportunities on offense despite 415 total yards which were the most the Bills have had in a game started by Allen. There was some very good play on defense, but also some poor play, particularly in the red zone where the Dolphins scored TDs on all three of their penetrations. And special teams was a complete mess. You add all that up, and you lose in the NFL.’
