Miscues cost Bills in 27-23 loss to New York Jets

‘”There’s a recipe to winning in this league and it starts by taking care of the football, giving yourself a chance with good field position,” McDermott said. “We were shooting ourselves in the foot. That’s really the story of the game right there.”‘

Bills lose the lead late, fall to the Jets 27-23

‘The game was also riddled with injuries, as the Bills lost LeSean McCoy, Chris Ivory and Matt Milano for the game, while Stephen Hauschka was also banged up end the end of the first half. The Jets lost running back Isaiah Crowell for the game in the first half.’

It was Allen early but Darnold late

‘In a nutshell, the Bills offense moved the ball but couldn’t finish drives over the final three quarters. The defense collapsed giving up touchdowns to the Jets on two of their final three drives and for the second straight week the Bills special teams were horrible.’

‘Bills’ linebacker Lorenzo Alexander said after the game that you don’t notice special teams until they cost you. Well, they certainly cost the Bills in this one. The special teams’ units may have had their worst day of an already bad season overall. There were plenty of issues. A blocked field goal. Another missed field goal. Then two huge kickoff returns against (and another that was eventually called back) that cost a ton of field position and made it easy on the Jets to score ten points. The Bills also had an illegal formation on another kickoff. It was an especially bad day for the special teams.’

‘Even though Allen is taking the loss hard, and that the Bills have lost two of the three games he’s started in since his return from injury, it will be important for him to realize that there was also the rookie ‘highs’ buried by the initial feelings of the loss.’

‘”First half we were playing like us and then the second half turnovers, miscues, dropped passes just really stalled us,” said wide receiver Zay Jones. “We just didn’t put ourselves in the best position to win the game in the second half.”‘

Sunday shows why Darnold drafted before Allen

‘However, Darnold was very good when it mattered late. The scramble and twirl TD pass to Robbie Anderson was the completed version of Allen’s final play last week in Miami. The 37-yarder to Anderson that set up the game winning score was a dime that would make Magic Johnson jealous.’

‘The typically-sound Buffalo defense was strong until the final drive, limiting New York to just 250 net yards. Tremaine Edmunds led the way defensively, totaling eight tackles and one interception.’
