Josh Allen should provide Patriots a good tuneup for postseason

‘“I feel like we’ve seen more mobile quarterbacks than pocket passers this year,” said defensive captain Devin McCourty. “Even if you look at Josh Allen, he has a great arm, but he can run. He’s an athlete. There’s not many guys who come into the league right now that aren’t athletes, I mean really good athletes.”’

‘“That’s true of, I’d say, the majority of the rookies. Take them out of college, put them into whichever system they go into and then evaluate how that goes,” Bill Belichick said of Allen’s performance based on his draft projection. “It’s sometimes quite different, especially if the systems are different. I mean, anytime you take a player from one system and put them in another system, you see things that you didn’t see before, and maybe you don’t see some of the things that you did see before because it’s a different system.”‘

‘“A guy, I think he was on their roster earlier and then was on practice squad and just got bumped up,” Patriots cornerback Jason McCourty said. “He looks like a guy that has been learning football throughout the course of the year and he’s been waiting for his opportunity and now he’s making the most of it. So obviously watching the film you see (against) Jacksonville, he takes off across the field and can run. He can get deep, he can run intermediate routes, so definitely one of the better players that’s stepped up for them as of late.”’
