‘With only 11 days to prepare Barkley became Buffalo’s fourth starting quarterback in nine games but, playing in place of injured first-round draft choice Josh Allen, performed as if he’d been with the team since training camp.’

Pollock: Barkley looked like anything but a desperation QB
‘“I’ll be ready to play. This quarterback situation (for the Bills) seems to be fluctuating. In whatever role I can help this team, that’s my goal … whether it’s to win or be the best backup I can.”’
Bills notebook: McCoy has first 100-yard game of year
‘McCoy, 26 carries for 113 yards, notched his first 100-yard game since going for 156 against the Colts in the snow last December.’
Vic Carucci: Matt Barkley surprisingly keys ‘fun win’ for Bills
‘In pounding the New York Jets, 41-10, Sunday the Bills generated more points than they’ve had in their last four games combined. Barkley’s stat line – 15-for-25, 232 yards, two touchdowns, no interceptions, 117.4 passer rating – was miles better than that of any Bills quarterback this season.’
Bills’ Matt Barkley’s TD pass to tackle Dion Dawkins almost didn’t happen
‘“And I couldn’t find him at first when I whipped my head around. He was kind of behind the mix, and then he just popped open. He looked like a tight end out there. It was a fun play.”’
Jason Wolf: Bills must start Matt Barkley vs. Jaguars, even if Josh Allen is healthy
‘Allen, the seventh overall pick in the draft, is the franchise quarterback. But he’s not quite ready to step into that role. The coaching staff realized it during the preseason, and although Allen was forced into action because of Peterman’s ineptitude, it doesn’t change the fact that he was in over his head.’
Jay Skurski’s 10 observations: Bills’ LeSean McCoy finally has breakout game
‘McCoy had 100-plus rushing yards and at least two rushing touchdowns for the 1oth time in his career, joining Adrian Peterson (17) as the only two active players with at least 10. He also moved into 26th place on the league’s all-time rushing list, passing Marshawn Lynch, Eddie George and Tiki Barber to move up from No. 29. He also surpassed 14,000 yards from scrimmage in his career, becoming just the 22nd running back in league history to hit that milestone.’
Plays that Shaped the Game: Bills make Jets’ man coverage pay
‘The Bills made New York Jets coach Todd Bowles pay for his attacking nature in the stunning, 41-10 victory over the Jets.’
Quarterly Report: Bills outgained Jets 186 yards to 1? Believe it.
‘The Bills, averaging 246 yards a game, outgained the Jets, 186-1, in the first 15 minutes. It was the third most yards by the Bills in a first quarter in the last 18 years.’
Bills-Jets Report Card: Straight A’s across the board in big Buffalo win
‘Matt Barkley played one of the best games a Bills quarterback has played in recent years. He finished 14 of 25 for 232 yards and two touchdowns – which would have been three had Zay Jones not fumbled at the 1-yard line. Barkley was composed, accurate and decisive about where he was going with the football. Jones had a career day with eight catches for 93 yards and a touchdown. Undrafted rookie Robert Foster had three catches for 105 yards. Kelvin Benjamin and Terrelle Pryor each were held without a catch on three targets, but it hardly mattered.’
Sean Kirst: Facing cancer, Pancho Billa is right medicine for Bills
‘He had surgery last December, then spent much of the year going through chemotherapy. During that time, he was embraced by old friends within the coast-to-coast network of fans known as the Bills Mafia. Behind the efforts of Ken Johnson, the often-ketchup-coated-superfan known as Pinto Ron – trust me, a long story there – the Mafia waged a successful Twitter campaign to convince the Bills to allow Pancho Billa to call a pick at the National Football League draft in Arlington.’
Bills can do no wrong and Barkley shines at quarterback in 41-10 victory over Jets
‘With a league-low 96 points through nine games, the Bills had set the pace for offensive struggles in the NFL this season. But they broke out in a big way behind the unlikeliest of heroes.’
A Bills QB controversy? Let’s not carried away but Barkley’s play a breath of fresh air
‘“It was fun,’’ said Barkley, whose last start was Jan. 1, 2017 for the Bears, a three-turnover day and a 38-10 loss to the Vikings. “I knew that I could play in this league. To get back out there after two years, I don’t want to be a cliché by saying it’s like riding a bike, but I’ve done this for years. I believe I was made to play football and tonight was just an example of going out there and doing what I was made to do.’’’
Report card
‘With a season-high five touchdowns, the Bills nearly matched their season total of eight. They entered a game with an NFL-low 96 points. That Buffalo could explode against a Jets’ defense ranked No. 14 in yards and No. 16 in points lends credibility to their effort. What’s impressive too is how McDermott has kept the team from imploding and how some of GM Brandon Beane’s recent roster moves paid off. “You learn a lot about yourself and other people when you’re going through moments of adversity,’’ McDermott said. “These guys understand they are part of something bigger and you make adversity your ally. It is something we can build on when we take a look at the film. I’m anxious to watch all the team, and in particular, these young guys and how well they played down in and down out.’’’

‘Barkley was the Bills’ fourth starting quarterback in five weeks and brought some poise and stability to the Bills’ NFL-worst passing offense.’
