‘But hey, the Bills won and I’m very thankful for that. I don’t hold out any hope for the 2018 Bills to surprise me as last season’s team did but a loss to the Titans would have dropped them to 1-4 and left me where I was after the Chargers game when I figured the Bills were headed for the worst record in the league. I have no desire to declare the season over and go heavy into draft talk before we even experience Halloween.’
Archives for October 2018
Ok for now
‘But so was brutal quarterback play by both Josh Allen and Marcus Mariota. Errant throws and sloppy ball handling were the order of the day. In the end though it was all enough for the Bills to get their second win of the 2018 season and keep fans hopes of at least a playoff chase alive into the middle of October.’
Sal’s Sticks: Titans at Bills
‘The entire unit did exactly what’s needed for this team to have to win football games. The formula right now is play really good (maybe even extraordinary) defense, get turnovers, and give the offense opportunities to capitalize. That’s exactly what the defense did against the Titans. They took the ball away three times and never allowed them into their end zone, only giving up four field goals on the day. There isn’t much more you can ask an NFL defense to do on any given Sunday than what the Bills did against Tennessee.’
Report: Bills to sign QB Derek Anderson
‘Anderson was last with the Carolina Panthers, backing up Cam Newton. Anderson, 35, has been with the Panthers, Cardinals and Browns in his twelve year NFL career, making 47 starts. Allen also worked with Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll during their time with the Browns.’
Bills win on last-second field goal to beat Titans 13-12
‘Yes the Bills got a win, but for the most part, the team’s offense struggled to capitalize on a few opportunities. The first drive was their best drive of the day after QB Josh Allen and company capitalized off a Titans turnover and turned it into a 14-yard rushing touchdown by the rookie QB. After that though, the offense couldn’t do much of anything.’
Joe B: 7 observations from Buffalo Bills vs. Tennessee Titans (10/7/18)
‘Allen isn’t attempting to push the ball down the field as much as you’d like to see from a passing offense, and against the Titans, we saw an increase of inaccurate passes on throws that should have been on target.’
Buffalo Bills to sign veteran QB Derek Anderson, per report
‘All Anderson has to do is be that sounding board for Allen, and more importantly, not trying to find his own way on to the field. I’m sure that’s the understanding from the Bills given to Anderson, who have gone all in on Allen to start the 2018 season.’
Bills defeat Titans 13-12
‘With Stephen Hauschka lining up for a chip shot field goal to take a 10-3 lead, Bojorquez picked the ball off the turf and looked to throw — except he might have been the only player thinking it was a fake field goal. Hauschka stepped up to kick and Bojorquez took off looking for an open receiver.. There was nobody there.’
Returning to form: Bills defense forces three turnovers in win over Titans
‘”You know, each week we always preach that,” safety Jordan Poyer said. “Coach Frazier actually told the defense we didn’t work hard enough on taking the football at Thursday’s practice. We came in with that mindset of Friday’s practice of stripping the football, taking the football away and it showed up today in the game.”‘
Graham: Analyzing McCoy’s slow start to the season
‘207 players have scored a touchdown in the NFL this year. LeSean McCoy isn’t one of them.’
Report: Bills to sign QB Derek Anderson
‘Anderson, 35, spent seven seasons with the Carolina Panthers and has a connection with current Bills general manager Brandon Beane.’
Defense reigns supreme as Bills top Titans
‘The Bills offense was largely stagnant, except for the handful of plays where running back LeSean McCoy broke free. The veteran broke out of the early-season doldrums with 85 yards rushing. McCoy also snagged a screen pass on a 3rd and 3 situation that he turned into a 13-yard gain and a first down before Hauschka’s game-winner.’
Bills grind out a win when they needed it most
‘”We were able to make them kick field goals today instead of 28 points they had 12 points and that’s the big difference,” smiled Lorenzo Alexander. “We found a way to do that. Knocking the ball down. Sniffing out a screen. Earlier in the year they were making those plays and we weren’t.”‘
Bills Decompress: 2018 Bills grow up a little
‘He only took one sack. He hung in the pocket more. He worked both side of the field more. He threw the ball safely out of bounds with a chance at a field goal late in the first half instead of up for grabs. Only a likely Corey Bojorquez braincramp (Sean McDermott said it was “miscommunication”) prevented points.’
Game recap: Bills produce come-from-behind win over Tennessee
‘Buffalo’s defense had its best outing of the 2018 season in the team’s Week 5 matchup with the Tennessee Titans. The unit forced three turnovers and contained Marcus Mariota for most of the contest, never letting the Titans into the end zone. Some late game heroics from the offense allowed the team to pick up their second win of the season.’
