Bills Smartly Shifting to Veteran QB Derek Anderson Over Interception-Prone Nathan Peterman
‘There is no doubt that Anderson is the best option to lead Sean McDermott’s team to a win on Sunday. Yes, that means Anderson—the former Pro Bowler in Cleveland and longtime backup to Cam Newton in Carolina, who had been forgotten by many as a veteran quarterback option nearly halfway through the season and was signed just nine days ago—is a better choice than Peterman, who’s been in this organization for two seasons.’
Bills promote WR Cam Phillips to 53-man roster, release WR Robert Foster
‘Phillips was brought in this preseason as an undrafted rookie free agent from Virginia Tech. Phillips was stashed onto the Bills practice squad after losing out to Foster for a spot on the 53-man roster.’
Clayton – They needed a Derek Anderson earlier
‘”You know I worry about (Josh) Allen. I think that he’s going to be a great quarterback but he’s not ready yet. And I worried he was going to get the injury, and he got another injury… They needed a Derek Anderson earlier than later. I’m just glad they now have Derek Anderson to put in there and at least give Allen a chance to recover.”‘
Anderson Preparing For Start, Bills Defense Faces Challenge In Andrew Luck
‘Derek Anderson was named the starting quarterback. I don’t know if I’ve been around a player that’s more comfortable in his skin. He was asked how much of the playbook can he grasp between now and Sunday, he laughed and said I’m not a rocket scientist but I’m relatively smart. but I’ll tell you what, he’s definitely fun to be around.’
How Derek Anderson is getting himself ready for Sunday
‘“Physically I feel good,” he said. “Last week I pushed myself pretty good through the week. I knew where I was at and I knew what I was doing. I ran pretty hard Sunday, did all my normal stuff. I felt good on Sunday. (Wednesday) I felt good. The legs feel good. The arm feels good. Mentally we’re working on putting a lot of hours in just trying to catch up with these guys. They’ve been together and been doing things since April. It’s my job to do what I can to catch up to where they’re at.”’
Bills promote WR Phillips from practice squad
‘To make room for Phillips on the roster, Buffalo released WR Robert Foster.’
Scouting Report Week 7 – Bills vs. Colts
‘Buffalo’s run of pass rush productivity must continue against the Colts. Andrew Luck is the trigger man for the offense and knowing how much Indianapolis throws the ball (see below), getting to the Colts QB will be critical to the outcome.’
Bills Today: Colts HC Frank Reich still roots for the Bills
‘“I have the best of memories about the Bills organization and my time there, my coaches and my teammates there, and the fans,” Reich said. “It was just a special part of our lives for 10 years. It was as good as it could be. I have nothing but the best of memories. I still root for the Bills. I still like to see the Bills do well. Still keep in touch with everybody there, still come back to the Buffalo community.“’
Derek Anderson takes over as Bills’ third starting quarterback in first seven weeks
‘Asked if his job is made easier by having a running back like LeSean McCoy, Anderson shot back: “Is he good? I’m not sure.”’
Josh Allen viewing elbow injury as ‘a blessing in disguise’
‘Allen wore a brace on his right elbow as he took part in stretching before practice, then headed into the team’s weight room with a trainer as positional drills started. He said after practice that he felt “relieved and happy” that the injury was not more serious. Speculation early in the week centered on the possibility Allen’s injury could require Tommy John surgery, which would have been catastrophic.’
Bills’ Nathan Peterman still just one snap from playing
‘“It’s a crazy league,” Peterman said after practice Wednesday. “You’re always one play away, so as a player in this league, you’ve got to have a short memory, no matter what that is, what that looks like for next week. I’m going to be ready.”’
Vic Carucci: Making Derek Anderson Bills’ starter not quite as easy as it looked
‘After all, the guy has been on the team for a little more than a week. He was enjoying an offseason vacation with his wife and their children when the Bills called to ask not if he would be their quarterback, but rather serve as a mentor for their rookie starter. Between last January and the time Anderson showed up at One Bills Drive, his most intense physical activity was chasing around his three little kids while contemplating retirement.’
What He Said: Sean McDermott on Derek Anderson decision, Josh Allen prognosis
‘Yeah, I’ve spoken to our staff about that, and they’re comfortable with where he is. He’s only going to continue to get into better football shape and so on and so forth that you typically get in training camp. That was also a piece of it.’
What They Said: Derek Anderson, Josh Allen, LeSean McCoy on quarterback change
‘Yeah, it is what it is. There’s no time to pout or make excuses. [We] just have to find ways to get it done. If it’s Josh [Allen] or Nate [Peterman] or Derek, whoever it is, we have a job to do and that’s to produce on offense. Guys in the front, they block. Guys in the back, we run. They throw, we catch. [We] just have to minimize all the mistakes with the penalties and take charge. It’s as simple as that.’
