‘The performance was as clear an indication as any of the depths the Bills have reached in a season moving ever closer to the disaster many prognosticators expected. It was the exclamation point to a humiliating six-day stretch that began with the desperate move to make a quarterback who probably should be retired their starter for the game.’

Bills QB Derek Anderson: ‘We’ve got to keep grinding’
‘“I’ve got to be very conscientious of the facts,” Anderson said after the loss, his first start in two years. “You know Coach talks about controlling the football and not giving them points. I gave them points before the half and then came right back out in the second half and turned it over again and they get seven points. I’ve just got to be better with the ball, better awareness. Can’t turn the ball over four times and expect to win a football game.”’
Jason Wolf: Bills defense rolls over in blowout loss to Colts
‘This game was decided long before that, and because the Bills’ defense was out-schemed and manhandled by a mediocre offense.’
Jay Skurski’s 10 observations: LeSean McCoy’s injury latest bad news for sputtering offense
‘McCoy was hit along the Colts’ sideline by Indianapolis cornerback Kenny Moore II on Buffalo’s second offensive play. He stayed down on the field before being walked back to the Bills’ sideline, where he was examined in the medical tent. From there, McCoy was slowly walked back to the locker room by trainers, without his helmet. A short time later, he was announced as having a head injury. The Bills officially ruled him out for the remainder of the game with 10:54 remaining in the second quarter.’
Quarterly Report: Ugly numbers from Bills’ one-of-a-kind blowout
‘Theme: Total domination by the Colts.’
Plays that Shaped the Game: Clay fumble started Bills on road to ruin
‘Clay caught the ball cleanly and had time to bring it to his body. Then Mitchell punched it out from behind with his left hand while making the tackle. It was a bang-bang play. The Bills need their top tight end to hang onto that kind of catch.’
Bills-Colts Report Card: Another failure for the passing game
‘Derek Anderson looked exactly how you feared he would. The 35-year-old starting in place of injured rookie Josh Allen went 20 of 31 for 175 yards and four total turnovers (three interceptions, one lost fumble). Until Allen gets healthy and shows something, the Bills have by far the worst quarterback situation in the NFL. Charles Clay, the $9 million tight end, lost a fumble inside the red zone with the score 6-0 Colts. Kelvin Benjamin did have season highs with four catches for 71 yards.’
What They Said: Bills lament inability to adjust to Colts
‘“I mean, I’ve got to be very conscientious of the facts. You know coach talks about controlling the football and not giving them points. I gave them points before the half and then came right back out in the second half and turned it over again and they get seven points. I just got to be better with the ball, better awareness. Can’t turn the ball over four times and expect to win a football game.”’
Buffalo Bills a complete no-show as they get embarrassed by Colts
‘It wasn’t bad enough that the Bills were a 7.5-point underdog to a team that had a worse record, but then to allow the Colts to spit in the face of that point spread as if it wasn’t enough, because clearly it wasn’t, was a disgrace.’
Maiorana: Buffalo Bills should be called out for lack of effort in pathetic loss
‘McDermott would have been better served to call out his players for a performance that was downright embarrassing, way worse than the 47-3 opening day loss to the Ravens because those were the playoff-contending Ravens, and these were the 1-5 Colts.’
Buffalo Bills running back LeSean McCoy enters concussion protocol
‘It appeared his left ankle buckled underneath him but the Bills announced that McCoy was being evaluated for a head injury. Later in the half McCoy was downgraded to out for the rest of the game. Coach Sean McDermott said after the game that McCoy has been placed in the league’s concussion protocol.’
Bills rookie Ray-Ray McCloud did not make trip to Indianapolis
‘It is uncertain what happened with McCloud. But whether he broke a team rule, or perhaps his attitude wasn’t proper after the move to elevate Phillips, he’ll be watching the game on television from 500 miles away.’
Report card
‘The Bills are a team that seems on the brink of disintegrating. There wasn’t a moment in the final 50 or so minutes of the game where you thought the Bills had a chance to win. They fell behind, kept digging the hole deeper, and by midway through the second quarter it looked like the entire roster had checked out. That’s a problem, and one that Sean McDermott never had to deal with last season, even during that dreadful three-game losing streak in November when Buffalo allowed 135 points. There needs to be some major soul-searching this week at One Bills Drive.’
Pollock: Just when we felt it couldn’t get any worse
‘BUT THE biggest casualty in this loss might have been attitude.’
Bills-Colts notebook: McCoy put in concussion protocol
‘On the Bills’ second offensive snap, running back LeSean McCoy was hit on the sideline and hurt his head and his ankle. He didn’t return.’
