‘Asked if his job is made easier by having a running back like LeSean McCoy, Anderson shot back: “Is he good? I’m not sure.”’

Josh Allen viewing elbow injury as ‘a blessing in disguise’
‘Allen wore a brace on his right elbow as he took part in stretching before practice, then headed into the team’s weight room with a trainer as positional drills started. He said after practice that he felt “relieved and happy” that the injury was not more serious. Speculation early in the week centered on the possibility Allen’s injury could require Tommy John surgery, which would have been catastrophic.’
Bills’ Nathan Peterman still just one snap from playing
‘“It’s a crazy league,” Peterman said after practice Wednesday. “You’re always one play away, so as a player in this league, you’ve got to have a short memory, no matter what that is, what that looks like for next week. I’m going to be ready.”’
Vic Carucci: Making Derek Anderson Bills’ starter not quite as easy as it looked
‘After all, the guy has been on the team for a little more than a week. He was enjoying an offseason vacation with his wife and their children when the Bills called to ask not if he would be their quarterback, but rather serve as a mentor for their rookie starter. Between last January and the time Anderson showed up at One Bills Drive, his most intense physical activity was chasing around his three little kids while contemplating retirement.’
What He Said: Sean McDermott on Derek Anderson decision, Josh Allen prognosis
‘Yeah, I’ve spoken to our staff about that, and they’re comfortable with where he is. He’s only going to continue to get into better football shape and so on and so forth that you typically get in training camp. That was also a piece of it.’
What They Said: Derek Anderson, Josh Allen, LeSean McCoy on quarterback change
‘Yeah, it is what it is. There’s no time to pout or make excuses. [We] just have to find ways to get it done. If it’s Josh [Allen] or Nate [Peterman] or Derek, whoever it is, we have a job to do and that’s to produce on offense. Guys in the front, they block. Guys in the back, we run. They throw, we catch. [We] just have to minimize all the mistakes with the penalties and take charge. It’s as simple as that.’
Happy trails after Wilson Foundation’s gift: ‘It’s like Christmas in October.’
‘”It’s a really exciting moment in time for the foundation and for both of these communities in Michigan and in Western New York,” said J.J. Tighe, the foundation’s director of parks and trails initiative. “A foundation isn’t going to build these trails, these are communities finding a way to connect within their communities, that’s one of the most important aspects of this.’
Editorial: Ralph Wilson’s championship legacy
‘Ralph Wilson made money in insurance, oil and gas, and manufacturing. He owned the Bills for 54 years and is enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. These days you are more likely to run across his name in the Chronicle of Philanthropy than in a football publication.’
Another Voice: Ralph Wilson’s bequest endows stronger communities
‘The foundation is excited to continue building on Ralph Wilson Jr.’s legacy of community impact and giving. Especially when it relates to the potential enhancement of infrastructure that will foster and encourage physical activity, healthy lifestyles and an appreciation for nature. It is truly amazing how the contributions of one extraordinary man can make a lasting difference for us all.’
Derek Anderson named Buffalo Bills starting QB for Sunday in Indianapolis
‘Peterman, who said after practice, “I respect the decision,” has endured nothing but misery in his time with the Bills. He has now appeared in seven games counting his cameo at the end of the Bills’ playoff loss in Jacksonville. He has completed just 36 of 82 passes (43.9 percent) with three touchdowns and 10 interceptions. His passer rating is historically horrible at 29.11, and last week’s game-losing pick-six in Houston only diminished that number.’
Phew, that was close! Buffalo Bills pick Anderson over Peterman to start at quarterback
‘The choice of Anderson, 35, who has played in 76 NFL games over Peterman, 24, who has played in six – tossing an interception once every 8.8 attempts – fell solidly into the “no-brainer’’ classification.’
Bills coach Sean McDermott hints the knockout shot on Josh Allen was dirty
‘Watching the replay, it certainly looks like Mercilus lowered his helmet and aimed it right at Allen’s elbow, and in an age where protecting the quarterback seems to be more important than anything else, referee Craig Wrolstad did not throw a flag.’
Pollock: Even with Indianapolis, a part of Frank Reich roots for Bills
‘A player with no discernable ego, he never lusted for a starting job but rather approached the game with a coach’s mind … being that was his father’s occupation. The two quarterbacks had a remarkable relationship, Kelly the unbridled party guy, Reich the religiously-committed homebody.’
Bills name Derek Anderson starting QB; Allen week-to-week with sprained elbow
‘”If it was a guy, and every situation is different, but if he was a quarterback that hadn’t been around the system it would have been awfully hard to get up to speed in a short amount of time.”‘
Bills’ Kelvin Benjamin says Derek Anderson capable of ‘picking a defense apart’
‘”It’s cool seeing D.A.,” Benjamin said Wednesday after the team’s first practice with Anderson as the starter. “You could tell he’s having fun, he’s pumped up and energized. You can tell he’s ready to go. I told him he’s like an old Mustang right now he’s just crunk back up.”‘
