‘Allen wore a brace on his right elbow as he took part in stretching before practice, then headed into the team’s weight room with a trainer as positional drills started. He said after practice that he felt “relieved and happy” that the injury was not more serious. Speculation early in the week centered on the possibility Allen’s injury could require Tommy John surgery, which would have been catastrophic.’

‘“It’s a crazy league,” Peterman said after practice Wednesday. “You’re always one play away, so as a player in this league, you’ve got to have a short memory, no matter what that is, what that looks like for next week. I’m going to be ready.”’

‘After all, the guy has been on the team for a little more than a week. He was enjoying an offseason vacation with his wife and their children when the Bills called to ask not if he would be their quarterback, but rather serve as a mentor for their rookie starter. Between last January and the time Anderson showed up at One Bills Drive, his most intense physical activity was chasing around his three little kids while contemplating retirement.’

‘Yeah, I’ve spoken to our staff about that, and they’re comfortable with where he is. He’s only going to continue to get into better football shape and so on and so forth that you typically get in training camp. That was also a piece of it.’

‘Yeah, it is what it is. There’s no time to pout or make excuses. [We] just have to find ways to get it done. If it’s Josh [Allen] or Nate [Peterman] or Derek, whoever it is, we have a job to do and that’s to produce on offense. Guys in the front, they block. Guys in the back, we run. They throw, we catch. [We] just have to minimize all the mistakes with the penalties and take charge. It’s as simple as that.’
