Bills Notebook: McDermott, Frazier will collaborate on defensive play-calling
‘Defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier “and I are still working through that,” McDermott said. “Either way, Leslie is going to be a big part of what we’re doing. I thought we did some good things yesterday at times. Overall, and obviously in the first half, it wasn’t good enough. You can’t give up 28 points and expect to win, or give yourself a chance to win. So overall as a defense, I didn’t think we played well enough in the first half. I thought the second half, I was very pleased with the effort, very pleased with the way the guys were flying around. They were executing and having fun out there and that was fun to watch.”’
Video Review: Chargers safety blitzes TKO’d Bills pass game
‘Said Chargers cornerback Casey Hayward: “This week we decided, hey, let’s put some pressure on the rookie. We’ve got a good blitzer in Derwin. I remember watching him in college blitz so much. He makes plays coming off the edge. He’s just a good football player.”’
Upon further review: Bills defense hoping to build on second-half effort
‘The Buffalo Bills’ defense looked like an entirely different unit in the second half Sunday.’
Jim Kubiak: Josh Allen gets difficult first lesson in processing protections
‘What is the biggest difference between college and professional football? Speed. The amazing rate of speed through which the game occurs combined with the size of the players is beyond the imagination. And much like preparing to take a walk on the moon, the training for such an endeavor cannot fully replicate actually being there on the moon.’
What They Said: Bills coaches on 0-2 start, Vontae Davis, Josh Allen and injuries
‘Just an injury update for you, LeSean McCoy is going to be day-to-day. Taiwan Jones, he has no concussion, he’s bruised and a little cut up there. Ray-Ray [McCloud] will continue to practice this week.’
Rowdy Bills fans clash at Lackawanna toll barrier
‘But, it wouldn’t be a Bills home opener without some sort of unexpected fracas – even if it occurred a few miles from the stadium.’
Buffalo Bills coach Sean McDermott: ‘We’re moving on’ from Vontae Davis
‘Davis quitting and retiring left the Bills in a precarious spot Sunday as they had only two healthy cornerbacks. McDermott said he and Brandon Beane will be discussing what they need to do to bulk up the position, but he did not get into specifics regarding how they would do it.’
With Vontae Davis quitting, Bills are in dire straits at cornerback
‘Johnson’s status is up in the air, and the Bills would obviously be scared out of their minds to activate Wallace and/or Lewis, though they may not have a choice because of the slim pickings on the current free agent market.’
Pollock: Little respect from oddsmakers for the Bills’ struggles
‘They’ve made Buffalo a staggering 16 ½-point underdog in Sunday’s game against the Vikings in Minneapolis. Those are easily the longest odds that have been put up in an NFL game through this season’s opening three weeks.’
Bills coach Sean McDermott not sure who will call plays for defense
‘”We had talked earlier today and we’re gonna watch some tape and just review some things with our defensive staff and come up with the best plan we can to put the guys in the best position to succeed,” Frazier said. “I think it will work itself out between him and I. We collaborate on everything.”‘
Bills RB LeSean McCoy didn’t break ribs vs. Chargers (report)
‘After an original report early Monday morning that the Bills running back in fact broke his ribs on the play, NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport followed up and said the Bills ran tests on McCoy’s injured ribs and have determined that they aren’t broken. McCoy “believed” it was broken ribs on Sunday.’
Rex Ryan: Vontae Davis quitting on Buffalo Bills at halftime is ‘ultimate disrespect’
‘”When he had to inform Sean McDermott, I can just see Sean’s jaw hitting the floor. And I’m sure he’s just like, “What the hell?” Like, I’ve been involved in football all my life, and not at one time–look, a lot of things go bad. And guys you know, lose their stinger a little bit. But, you know, you bench him. You try to bring him back or whatever, but this is a joke. You don’t quit. And for him not to think he was disrespectful to his teammates, that are fighting their butts off and everything else, I mean it is the ultimate disrespect, I think. Look, you’re gonna quit? Quit on Monday. It’s–it’s an embarrassment. And you know what? He can’t play anymore. I get it.”‘
Buffalo Bills still struggling, but fans have faith in Josh Allen (video)
‘We were in the parking lot after the game to get reaction from the Bills Mafia. They were impressed with Allen but disappointed with the result.’
Scott Stinson: Buffalo’s troubled early season is so very Bills like
‘The Bills go on the road to play Minnesota and Green Bay the next two weeks, and say your prayers for Allen now. The Bills are 17-point underdogs to the Vikings, which is verging into Alabama-Troy territory. Buffalo probably won’t be favoured in a game until Week 14 at home to the Jets, if that.’
