‘Sunday marked Allen’s NFL starting debut. It wasn’t great, but it was a vast improvement over the atrocious Nathan Peterman Experiment that melted down in last week’s season opener at Baltimore.’

‘A big growth process’: Bills LB Edmunds reacts after tough outing
‘“You’ve just got to keep your head on straight, continue to learn every day and be honest with yourself,” he said. “You’re going to make some plays out there, but be honest with yourself on the plays that you could have made. Don’t make excuses for yourself. We’ve just got to learn from it, man. There’s going to be some struggles along the way, but it’s about how we respond to it.”’
Jason Wolf: Bills are better off without Vontae Davis
‘He felt no sense of duty to his teammates, who were incredulous after the game.’
Plays that Shaped the Game: Chargers skewered Bills with talent, scheme
‘It was no surprise the Chargers looked to isolate their 6-foot-4 receiver on the most suspect Bills defensive back, Vontae Davis.’
Jay Skurski’s observations: McDermott takes over play-calling duties for Bills defense
‘It’s understandable why the coach would want to shake things up after his defense’s effort in the first half Sunday. To say things were too easy for the Chargers would be putting it mildly. Philip Rivers and Co. did whatever they wanted, piling up 284 yards of total offense and 17 first downs.’
Quarterly Review: Chargers stars win their matchups with Bills
‘The Bills lost nickel cornerback Philip Gaines to an elbow injury just eight minutes into the game. With slot corner Taron Johnson already out, that put safety Rafael Bush back into slot coverage, which means more predictable zones from the Bills. Not good against the No. 1 pass offense from 2017.’
Bills-Chargers Report Card: Failing grades still far too common for Buffalo
‘Two games into the season and coach Sean McDermott has been forced to take over defensive play-calling duties from coordinator Leslie Frazier. The Bills once again were woefully underprepared at the start of the game, falling behind at halftime, 28-6. Part of that has to fall on the coaching staff. McDermott went 0 for 2 on challenges. Starting the game with just four healthy cornerbacks has been a mistake two straight weeks.’
For tailgaters, Bills Nation starts with community
‘”I like the community, and everyone who comes out, even if you’re a rival supporter,” said a bare-chested Corey Yaskow, wearing shorts and Bills sneakers.’
Josh Allen makes his NFL starting debut, but Bills get outclassed again
‘For most of the way the No. 7 overall draft pick did not look overwhelmed by the situation, but he made some glaring rookie mistakes in the second half and the Bills couldn’t overcome those because they simply don’t have enough talent around Allen to produce any offensive consistency.’
Teammates appalled as Vontae Davis quits Buffalo Bills at halftime of loss to Chargers
‘Davis signed with the Bills as a free agent in March after missing most of the 2017 season with a serious groin injury that required surgery. He was limited for much of the offseason program, and though his work picked up in training camp and the preseason, it was clear that he was struggling.’
With loss to Chargers, Bills are on track to be worst team in NFL
‘Sure, they’ll win a few, but come the end of December, chances are they won’t have many, and all that draft talk might get very real. The Bills had a player quit at halftime, coach Sean McDermott took the defensive play-calling responsibilities away from Leslie Frazier, and they’ve now been outscored 78-23. As former Yankees manager Joe Girardi would say, it’s not what you want.’
Roth: Allen wasn’t dreaming, playing quarterback in the NFL is one tough job
‘But Allen also had five sacks and two costly interceptions, his second one on an underthrown pass to tight end Jason Croom that set up an easy field goal for the visitors in the fourth quarter and ended any chance of a storybook comeback.’
Report card
‘This was headed into pure ‘F’ territory at halftime when the Bills were down 28-6 and looking like they were going to get eviscerated the way they did in Baltimore. To their credit, even with a player quitting on them, they fought hard in the second half and actually made it a game early in the third quarter before fizzling out, unable to complete what would have been an epic comeback. The Bills are 0-2, and there is no evidence to suggest that they aren’t the worst team in the NFL.’
Bolts zap Bills, spoil home opener
‘Los Angeles went up 28-3 with two minutes left in the opening half and even though Buffalo answered with a field goal before intermission, the faithful (?) sent their Bills to the locker room with a shower of boos, thanks to the 22-point deficit.’
Pollock: Allen’s initial start offered view of future
‘In the second half, his numbers weren’t glittering (10-of-19 for 119 yards, two sacks, two interceptions and the TD), but the Bills played better around him … especially on defense.’
