‘These are the numbers that tell the tale on why the Peterman experiment should be dead: 5-of-18 for 24 yards. Two interceptions that resulted in 10 Raven points. A 0.0 passer rating (nudging his career rating to an embarrassing 25.6). No first downs, let alone points, in the first half. One first down total before being mercifully replaced by Allen with 11:22 left in the third quarter.’

Kelvin Benjamin, LeSean McCoy barely a factor in Bills blowout loss
‘“Yeah, that one went straight through me,” he said. “I mean, the weather played a big part in the game today, but you can’t make that as an excuse, because we had a lot of penalties. I mean, we had a lot of stuff that we messed up on. As an offense, we looked terrible. Let’s be honest.”’
Jason Wolf: No alternative now but for Bills to start Josh Allen
‘Factoring in penalties, the Bills’ offense managed minus-7 net yards on his 10 possessions.’
Jay Skurski’s 10 observations: What happened to the Bills’ secondary?
‘“I can’t answer that for you,” safety Micah Hyde said. “I think a lot of things. I’ve got to watch the film to see exactly what happened. I know there’s a lot of things we’ve got to work on. It’s just not a good showing, man. It is one game. We’ve been in this position before, dating back to last season when the wheels fell off, but we got it back going. So that’s the plan. It’s just one game.”’
Plays that Shaped the Game: Ravens offense pulled the strings
‘“The one thing you notice is that the style of their defense,” said Flacco, “those linebackers are just so free to attack the line of scrimmage, at least for two steps forward before they actually do get back in the pass coverage. So we really felt like we could get them sucked up and hit them in that intermediate, 10 to 15 yard range over the top of their head.”’
Quarter by Quarter: Matchups and second-guesses on Bills’ implosion
‘The Ravens’ special teams have ranked among the top five in the NFL six straight years. Baltimore ranked No. 5 on punt returns and No. 1 on kickoff returns. Rookie Janarion Grant burned the Bills for a 51-yard punt return early in the second quarter.’
Bills-Ravens Report Card: Straight Fs across the board for Buffalo
‘If I could invent a grade worst than F, I would. Nathan Peterman was nothing short of a disaster for the second time in three career starts. I have no idea how Sean McDermott could even consider putting Peterman back under center short of an injury to Allen. As of right now, he is not a viable option to be a starting quarterback in the NFL. To be fair, Peterman got little help. His pass protection was terrible. Supposed No. 1 receiver Kelvin Benjamin dropped a would-be touchdown catch. Charles Clay was nowhere to be found. Just brutal all the way around.’
What Sean McDermott, Bills players said after ugly loss
‘“I’m going to look at everything. It’s too early to go one way or another. When I look at everything, I’m going to be objective and make sure we put ourselves in situations to win games.”’
A complete meltdown in every phase as Bills get embarrassed by Ravens
‘Of course, he had no help from anyone. His wide receivers couldn’t get open, and his offensive line couldn’t protect him, but the undeniable truth is that Peterman cannot play in the NFL. He just can’t. He’s not big enough, he’s not strong enough, his arm is mediocre, and he can’t turn bad plays into good ones the way the good quarterbacks can. He’s barely backup level, let alone a starter, and Sean McDermott may have already come to that conclusion.’
Enough already with Nathan Peterman; Time to turn to Josh Allen is now
‘If the Bills are truly hoping to win a game this season, they may not if Peterman continues to start. They might win a few if they turn to Allen.’
Maiorana: The Buffalo Bills got their cans kicked; now fix it!
‘As for this offensive line, there’s not much more to say. It’s awful, we all know it, and there’s not much the Bills can do about it because there’s no help lurking out there somewhere. Offensive line play in the NFL is terrible almost everywhere, so anyone who can actually play is already playing for a team. How bad is Russell Bodine? The backup center didn’t even play.’
Report card
‘Worst opening day loss. Worst road loss. Second-worst loss regardless of venue. The Bills are in their 59th year of existence, and that’s where the 47-3 defeat to the Ravens on Sunday ranked in team history. It was as awful a performance as the score would indicate, and what was so disgraceful is that all three phases – offense, defense and special teams – played at an embarrassingly poor level. If Bills fans had a ray of hope that this team could repeat its somewhat miraculous advancement to the playoffs from last year, this should just about shatter that illusion. There was nothing positive to take from this debacle.’
Bills buried in Baltimore
‘Buffalo’s offense had no first downs in the opening half and, with eight minutes to play in the third period, the Bills had netted a microscopic 20 yards total offense … 13 FEWER than at intermission.’
Pollock: It was one of the worst days in history for Bills
‘In the first half, Buffalo had no first downs. There were seven full possessions, five of them three-and-outs and two others that were extended a snap by Bills penalties.’
Bills-Ravens notebook: Edmunds impresses in otherwise dismal opener
‘The game’s ONLY — and we mean ONLY — bright spot for Buffalo was the play of middle linebacker Tremaine Edmunds, the Bills second of of two first-round draft picks last April.’
