‘”I don’t know how many people were here today but I can’t imagine what it’s going to be like when those top rows are filled up,” said Phillips.’

How Dawkins, Ducasse and Miller are embracing new roles on the offensive line
‘“We need a lot of reps, and we need to do things over and over again,” he said. “Mistakes happen when people don’t practice things enough. Whether it is hand placement, footwork, or anything else; you have to keep working at it.”’
Quick Hits: QB rotation remains the same
‘“A.J. [McCarron] was yesterday, so Nate will be out there with the first-team tonight,” he said. “Like I’ve said before, nothing has changed yet.”’
3 things to know from Day 8 at Bills camp
‘“It was really just a quarterback putting it in a place where only I could get it,” said Croom. “It’s about making each other look good and that’s what we did.”’
Bills Today: This undrafted wide receiver is producing big plays early in camp
‘As an undrafted rookie wide receiver out of Virginia Tech, many may say that Cam Phillips’ chances of making the final cut is slim. However, as training camp has progressed Phillips has impressed with his ability to find open space on the field.’
Bills QB coach Culley endorsed as ‘right guy’ to work with Josh Allen
‘”I think (Allen) has the right guy, because David is going to be a guy who will be a calming influence and still be able to educate and teach him how to do it,” Mitchell said by phone. “As a college quarterback, I went from a guy who was just an athlete and ran around and threw the ball once somebody got wide open to a guy who ran the option, which is very disciplined. And I became a very good passer under his tutelage.’
Micah Hyde among NFL players not sold on new helmet rule
‘“The plays I’m talking about are you’re going to tackle somebody and your head hits him first,” Hyde said. “It’s not like you’re spearing him, but your head hits him first. They’re saying that’s a personal foul because you’re leading with your head. It’s little stuff like that that is hard to take out of the game.”’
Day 7 Training Camp Notes: Bills injury list starts to get longer
‘The team was in helmets and shorts for the practice, which lasted just about 90 minutes. For the first time since camp started, the Bills had a fairly lengthy injury report. Wide receivers Andre Holmes (quad) and Quan Bray (toe) did not practice, nor did defensive end Trent Murphy (groin). Right tackle Jordan Mills and cornerback Vontae Davis were given a veteran rest day.’
Bills QB Watch: AJ McCarron gains an edge in QB rotation
‘McCarron unofficially was 5 of 10 with two TDs in red-zone work and an interception, which was the play of the day. McCarron’s short pass over the middle for Chris Ivory was a tad behind and caromed off the running back’s hands. Matt Milano made a superb diving pickoff. McCarron showed good pocket presence in the red zone, sliding to buy time and giving tight end Jason Croom time to get open against Micah Hyde. McCarron also had a nice TD strike to Charles Clay in 7-on-7 work.’
What He Said: Special teams coordinator Danny Crossman on kickoff rules changes
‘I think the biggest thing for me, and you look around the league, it’s going to be what happens and what you see in preseason. This will be the most important preseason in terms of the kicking game in the 17 years that I’ve been in the league. It’s going to be interesting; it’s going to be important because, to see, really, what people are trying to do on both sides of it, the kickoff and the kickoff return, because it really is, at the end of the day, going to be a complete different play. There’s obviously going to be a lot of the same things that are embedded in it, but [a] completely different play than we’ve seen in the past.’
Logan Thomas’ pregnant wife drives 3 hours every day so their family can be together
‘“They want to be here every day and be around their father,” Brandie said one morning earlier this week as the boys ran around on the main field after Logan had finished his post-practice drills. “It’s not that bad of a drive, an hour and a half. I want them to have the memories that they can make here every day.”’
Alteration to NFL kickoff rules should make play safer and more exciting
‘That alteration completely counteracted the first rule because teams considered those extra 5 yards precious, so why give the offense the free real estate with a touchback? The edict for kicker became, rather than boom the ball through the end zone, keep it in play because most teams felt they could tackle the return man inside the 25. Meaning, collisions were back in vogue.’
Bills rookie guard Gerhard de Beer ate 8,000 calories per day to make his college team
‘“I knew of American football but my interest spiked when I heard about this guy,’’ de Beer said. “He has an amazing story, in a sense like mine. I chased after my dream because of him and I’m hoping my story might inspire somebody to do the same.’’’
Chris Ivory’s brutalizing attack gives Bills running game new dimension
‘”He definitely brings that attitude … brings his lunch pal and straps his chin strap up and is ready to go. … And that rubs off on us (other running backs),” Jones said. “When you see a guy like that and he has that mindset to punish the defense it helps to rub off on the group.”‘
LeSean McCoy: In two years Tremaine Edmunds will be one of NFL’s best players
‘The praise from McCoy came after Edmunds intercepted a pass intended for the running back on Thursday. The Bills’ middle linebacker jumped in front of an AJ McCarron pass to the back and returned it 40 yards down the field. The interception comes one day after Edmunds intercepted a McCarron pass intended for Jeremy Kerley.’
