‘At tight end, Charles Clay is the starter. But after him, you could list the next four in any order on a depth chart and it wouldn’t surprise me – Logan Thomas, Jason Croom, Khari Lee, and Nick O’Leary. Keith Towbridge is probably the sixth player there and a long shot to make it. However, all of these tight ends provide something that appeals to offensive coordinator Brian Daboll, whether that’s a good matchup in the passing game or an ability to block on the line. It might simply come down to what type of tight end he and McDermott want to keep as they look at building their roster.’

Sal’s Sticks: Bills at Bears
‘I think McCloud was already safe going into the game, but some believed he was on the bubble, and if that’s the case, he needed to make some plays too show why he’s deserving of a roster spot. He certainly did, especially on special teams as a punt and kick return man. The rookie sixth round draft pick returned one kick for 32 yards and averaged over 14 yards on three punt returns, and all the while did it in tight traffic, making oncoming tacklers miss.’
Joe B: 2018 Buffalo Bills 53-man roster projection — Final Cut
‘The wide receiver group came down to whether or not Corey Coleman and Ray-Ray McCloud would be on the roster. Ultimately, I have the Bills keeping both because they provide the Bills with something unique.’
Joe B: 5 takeaways from Buffalo Bills GM Brandon Beane (8/30/18)
‘While this wasn’t an outright admission that Nathan Peterman will be the starter to open up the 2018 regular season, his performance combined with every bit of information we’ve gotten from the Bills when they speak makes him the favorite to be the guy in Baltimore.’
McCarron heroics lead Bills to victory in preseason finale
‘Facing 4th-and-23 and in the shadow of their own end zone on the 3-yard line, McCarron threw up a prayer, which fell incomplete. However, the Bears were flagged for roughing the passer, giving Buffalo new life.’
Bills GM Brandon Beane Reflects on Preseason
‘”Nobody talks about Nate,” said Beane. “He’s not flashy, he’s not the sports car. He’s just steady Eddie. He’s going to get you to work every single day. That’s why we love him. I know nationally and even locally people doubled who Nate was. But when you know the kid, he never pointed fingers , and the guys on this team really saw that. When he was down in the dumps guys patted him on the butt said “hey lets go” and he showed up. When Brian Daboll got here, he was there to meet him in his office, and started learning this playbook and we’re happy for his success and look forward to seeing what the future holds for him.”‘
5 Questions: Corey Coleman
‘”It really starts with making plays on the field and then they do all the measurables — the 40, vertical, broad jump and go through the roof with those and then you have to match it with your play.”‘
McCarron leads the Bills to 4th quarter comeback
‘As the season approaches, the next step for McDermott and the staff is to trim the roster from 90 to 53 ahead of the 4 p.m. deadline on Saturday.’
Game recap: Bills QB AJ McCarron leads gritty comeback in preseason finale
‘A.J. McCarron led the Bills on a 12-play, 84-yard drive capped off by a seven-yard touchdown pass to Keith Towbridge. A failed two-point conversion put the Bills up 28-27.’
Top 3 things we learned from Bills-Bears
‘Much like the quarterbacks who sat for the Bears game, it was very telling that in addition to Charles Clay it was Jason Croom who sat out the final preseason contest. It could mean that Croom has earned a spot on the 53-man roster after his impressive performance against Cincinnati.’
Bills Today: Beane and McDermott focused on creating long-term success
‘“I’d love to look at it as the start of a foundation, laying that bottom floor of a culture,” Beane said. “I don’t think you can totally build a culture and have everything work perfectly in one season. But I do think setting a standard of an expectation, what we expect from the players, what they should expect from us, what we expect from the grounds crew, the equipment guys—that’s what I would like to look back at, that everybody understands their role, and we expect everybody to work at this standard, at this level, and no matter what happens you have to keep it at that standard.”’
‘It’s unacceptable’: McDermott fed up with Bills’ penalty problem
‘“It’s unacceptable,” coach Sean McDermott said. “The only word for it is unacceptable. You can’t do that and expect to stay on schedule and move the football, in particular, against good defenses. Cincinnati, (Sunday’s) example, was a good defense. We have to stop hurting ourselves. Before you win, you have to prevent yourself from losing. Pre-snap penalties or penalties overall don’t allow you to play on-schedule football offensively.”’
5 things to watch in Bills-Bears: Does it make sense to play Peterman or Allen?
‘One has to believe Sean McDermott already has made up his mind on the quarterback decision between Nathan Peterman and Josh Allen for Week 1. Ditto for Ryan Groy vs. Russell Bodine at center. Even though the Bills’ offense could use a feel-good, bounce-back showing after the loss to Cincinnati, it’s not going to mean anything against the Bears’ scrubs playing vanilla schemes. Coaches generally want to protect their preferred starter from injury exposure. So if Allen or Peterman sit out while the other plays a ton, that will be telling. Ditto at center, where it appears Groy has the edge (since he started preseason Weeks 1 and 3).’
Bengals’ Andy Dalton pens thank you message to Bills fans
‘There is so much to be thankful for with all the support and love we have received from Buffalo. @jjdalton5 and I never thought we would be giving to the city of Buffalo but the generosity from so many people made it happen.’
‘Bachelorette’ showrunner, a big Bills fan, wants more reality from ‘Embedded’
‘As a fan of the Bills, I love getting a glimpse behind the curtain. While watching, one can’t help but get excited for this team. McDermott is a real leader! Jerry Hughes could be a coach some day! Those guys in the secondary really do love each other!’
