‘With Williams sidelined indefinitely, the Bills will turn to Phillips and Washington to pick up the slack. They also added to their depth at the position Sunday by re-signing defensive tackle Tenny Palepoi, who fills the roster spot vacated after punter Cory Carter, who tore his ACL Friday night, was designated as waived/injured.’

Bills, McCarron seeking second opinion after inconclusive tests
‘”We had some tests yesterday. We’re going to do some more,” McDermott said. “We’re in the process of seeking a second opinion. We have no further updates at this point.”‘
Bills defenders upset with Landry’s crackback block on Taron Johnson
‘Landry caught the unexpecting Johnson focusing on the Browns running back, who had just received the handoff, when he flew in from his outside position to lay down a devastating crackback block. The block paid off, as Carlos Hyde ran into the end zone for the Browns’ first points of the game.’
What He Said: Sean McDermott breaks down Bills injuries, QB competition
‘I thought he did a good job. There were some plays that he wants back. As a team, there’s some things, Josh included in that, that we have to improve on. Plenty of work to do there, but really, I thought he moved the ball and generated points in all three drives there, which was good to see. [He] did some good things. Each opportunity for Josh is a learning experience because he’s young, but I thought, for the most part, he had good command of the offense, of the huddle. We did have to take a timeout there, which is not ideal; we like to save those. But overall, I thought he took what the defense gave him and played smart football.’
Matt Milano looking to build on a promising rookie season with Buffalo Bills
‘“Matt was slowed a little bit with a hamstring, but even how he handled that (by) sticking around Buffalo during the break to get himself right and ready to go for training camp was a big sign, I thought, of maturity,” said coach Sean McDermott. “He’s very serious about his job and what we’re trying to do as a football team, so I certainly appreciate that.”’
Sean McDermott noncommittal on severity of A.J. McCarron’s injury
‘When asked what McCarron missing time means in his quest to win the starting job over Nathan Peterman and Josh Allen, McDermott said, “Let’s take his health status, number one, and then factor that into (the fact that) we just have to get into this next stage one day at a time here and then we’ll go from there. We’ll see. If healthy, then we pick up where we left off.”’
Buffalo Bills rookie Tremaine Edmunds learns from mistakes, impresses teammates
‘”You’re gonna have bad plays. I don’t care if you’re Luke Kuechly or some no-name guy that’s trying to make the roster,” Alexander said. “Everybody’s gonna have some missed (plays), bad eyes, bad steps at some point. Obviously the great ones minimize those mistakes, and a guy like Tremaine is going to continue to get better.”‘
Kyle Williams injury update: Buffalo Bills DE is week-to-week, won’t need surgery
‘”It’s week-to-week at this point and we’ll take it one week at a time,” McDermott said. “I know if Kyle can be out there he’ll be out there. … I have a lot of confidence in Kyle, both as a player and a person, healing, but for right now he remains week-to-week.”‘
A.J. McCarron injury update: Buffalo Bills QB getting second opinion on shoulder
‘”We’re still totally not totally (clear) on the results of the test,” McDermott said before the team’s Sunday practice. “We had some tests yesterday and we’re in the process of receiving the second opinion. There’s really no further updates at this point.”‘
Bills’ Lorenzo Alexander: Jarvis Landry should be fined for ‘dirty’ hit on teammate
‘”It was dirty. I mean, that’s a penalty,” Alexander said Sunday after the Bills practiced. “You can’t come in back into the box like that and crackback on somebody. Obviously he hit him with his shoulder but it’s a penalty and a dirty play.”‘
McCarron’s injury opens the door for Josh Allen
‘Sure, Allen will have his ups and downs, like any rookie quarterback will. Allen will have moments like the fourth down play against Carolina in the first preseason game where he looked like he had no idea what to do with the ball. He will also have plays where he steps up in the pocket in the red zone and fires a pass to throw a receiver open, like he did with Rod Streater during Friday’s game in Cleveland. That being said, the way for a young quarterback to grow is by playing on the field during the game, not by standing on the sidelines, trying to figure what poster board to hold up with the correct cartoon character to symbolize what play the starter should call in a no-huddle offense.’
Josh Allen or Nathan Peterman? Buffalo Bills have tough decision to make
‘It’s difficult to say Peterman hasn’t earned the starting job, especially when you consider the Bills’ coaching staff doesn’t seem to be in a rush to install Allen as the top guy just yet.’
Buffalo Bills taking it ‘one day at a time’ with AJ McCarron’s injury
‘”We’re still not totally conclusive on the results of his tests,” McDermott said during his Sunday press conference. “We had some tests yesterday. We’re going to do some more. He’s in the process of receiving a second opinion, but really no further updates at this point.”‘
Bills defenders call Jarvis Landry’s block ‘dirty’ and ‘B.S.’
‘He added, “It was dirty at the end of the day, and that’s how I feel about it.”‘
Bills defenders call Jarvis Landry block on TD run “dirty,” “ridiculous”
‘Landry has a history with the Bills from his days with the Dolphins inside the AFC East. A block on former Bills safety Aaron Williams in 2016 helped end his career, and Hyde cited that Sunday. Williams didn’t play again and retired due to a history of neck and head injuries.’
