‘”I’m not big on looking at stats,” Lacey said after Tuesday’s practice at St. John Fisher College. “I didn’t even know that I led the team until you just told me. That’s nice, I guess. But my thing is focusing on winning and getting better. And I love playing special teams.”‘

Bills’ Travaris Cadet focused on mental wellness during long recovery
‘”It was a process that I didn’t see coming, but all it did was push me more, humble me more and allow me to do more mental work,” Cadet said Tuesday following practice on day five of training camp at St. John Fisher College. “Me and my therapist, we try to take the right approach, a positive approach, because in that situation it is so easy to get negative about it. I’m on the field and watching my leg be on the other side of my body, not knowing what’s going to happen.”‘
Day 5 Training Camp Notes: O-line shuffles, Bush and Shaq show up
‘The second-team offensive line included the same five but the guards and tackles switched sides on Day 5. Most notably, second-year man Conor McDermott moved from right tackle to left tackle. Rookie Wyatt Teller moved from right guard to left guard. Ryan Groy was the center. (Russell Bodine took his turn with the first teamers.) Marshall Newhouse, who has been playing left guard, went to right tackle. De’Ondre Wesley, at left tackle the past few days, went over to right guard.’
Bills QB Watch, Day 5: McCarron has 3 TDs, 1 INT
‘Working with the starters probably is a net disadvantage in the QB competition, at least as it relates to the number of completions and TDs. While the starter gets to work with LeSean McCoy and Kelvin Benjamin, the Bills first-team defense is the strength of the team. It’s harder to make plays against the Bills’ defensive “ones.”‘
Vegas bettors appear to be losing faith in the Bills
‘”I think the Bills were extremely fortunate to win nine games, and their metrics last year were not those of a nine-win team but more like that of six- or seven-win team,” Sharp said. “Factor in a much stronger chance for them to lose the turnover battle due to the departure of Tyrod Taylor, factor in a weaker offensive line, and you have a team that will likely underachieve, particularly compared to 2017 expectations.’
He had an email, phone and office, but Russ Brandon isn’t joining New Era Cap
‘New Era’s statement offers little insight and a company spokesperson said there would be no additional comment Tuesday night. In full, the statement read: “Good afternoon. New Era Cap would like to clarify that Russ Brandon has not been officially hired by the company. While dialogue did occur between the parties, such discussions did not fully materialize. New Era Cap’s leadership team has worked with Russ Brandon for many years and these conversations were simply an outcome of that ongoing professional relationship. Thank you.”’
Why Russ Brandon’s pairing with Koch family, New Era Cap Co. makes sense
‘Neither Koch, New Era nor Brandon has confirmed the hiring, and multiple New Era employees expressed surprise over the move, indicating that it hadn’t yet been widely announced. But The News confirmed that Brandon’s New Era email address and phone extension are already in the company’s system. There’s no word yet on Brandon’s duties, official title or start date.’
Blue-collar Buffalo fell in love with underdog Brandon Reilly last year
‘“I was surprised how quick the fans caught on, and I definitely appreciate it, but I don’t want to be just a training camp favorite, I hope to be a regular-season and playoff favorite as well,” he said. “That’s what I’m working for.”’
Zay Jones is at Fisher, but he still isn’t practicing with the Bills
‘“We’ll try to phase him in, like we do all of our injured players,” McDermott said. “I ask our trainers, ‘Hey, when you say he’s back, does that mean he’s full go, full reps? Does that mean it’s his first day back on the practice field (so we should take it easy)?’ We have a plan to move him forward so that when he does come back, he’ll be a little limited to start off and then get him going from there.”’
Roth: Welcome to Camp Underdog where it’s easy to root for the longshot
‘“To me, it’s all on how bad do you want it?’’ Boesen added. “It could be bad grades that keep a kid out of college, you can get into trouble. But you can go to junior college and still make it. It’s about putting your head down, working hard and making it happen.’’’
AJ McCarron brings ‘swagger’ to Buffalo Bills’ quarterback competition
‘”We’re all blessed to be able to play this game, make good money and it’s a blessing,” McCarron told reporters gathered around him on the field after a training-camp practice. “I just have fun.”‘
2018 NFL Training Camps: Bills won’t rush Josh Allen into starting QB role
‘”We’ve got a plan in our minds,” McDermott said when asked about how the division of labor with the starting offense will play out in the preseason. One gets the sense that plan calls for a judicious approach with the novice quarterback whose fortunes will be intrinsically tied to those of the head coach and general manager Brandon Beane. These are the same guys willing to trade their highest-paid players shortly upon taking over and willing to look at an untested Peterman in the heart of a playoff race — because they knew the roster wasn’t ready to truly compete just yet in a league where fooling yourself or overstating your chances is a way of life — and continue a teardown despite the series of quirky events that landed them in the postseason.’
Quarterbacks, Benjamin have solid day as Bills return to field
‘But prior to that in 1-on-1 drills, Benjamin made two highlight-reel catches, both against Tre’Davious White, even though the second-year cornerback seemed to have excellent coverage. The first was deep in the middle of the back of the end zone. White was just off Benjamin’s hip. McCarron threaded the needle, allowing the 6’ 5” wideout to stretch his hands out and grab it as his body was falling out of the back of the end zone. He not only got both feet inbounds, but it looked like both legs also landed inside the chalk before the rest of his body came down out of bounds.’
Joe B: 7 observations from 2018 Buffalo Bills training camp – Day 5
‘Edmunds shined in the daily 9-on-7 drills, making the right reads and hitting the running lane with authority to stop several plays in the backfield.’

‘For some of the reasoning behind some of the changes, make sure to read my observations of Day Five. For now, the full, yet unofficial depth chart from Day Five…’.
