‘I asked Beane point blank if it makes him cringe thinking about the draft picks he’d have to relinquish to make such a move and he smiled and said, “I do like my picks, you nailed that. It’s one of those things where if you’re gonna move up, especially in round one, it takes a lot. The higher you go, it exponentially increases. So, you have to feel good about what you’re doing. You can’t just go up there, hey, we need a quarterback, we’re going to mortgage everything to go up there. We’ve got to know that we feel this guy is the guy and is worth the ransom, or whatever you want to call it, that it would take to move wherever you have to move to get a guy you think fits your long-term plan.”’

NFL Combine: What we learned from Josh Rosen, Baker Mayfield other quarterbacks
‘”You do see some of their personality come out,” Beane said. “How do they handle it when the mistake is pointed out? Do they blame somebody else? Do they take the blame themselves? How do they take coaching? What’s their football smarts? How do they communicate? Are they comfortable? Are they backing down? Do they not know anything? Some guys are very confident when they come in the room and they want the laser pointer, and they’re not only pointing out what their job is but the guy next to them and the guy next to him. They’re pointing out the front on defense. So you can pick up a lot about their knowledge and their personality just by the way you talk to them in the room.”‘
5 offensive players who could interest the Bills post-combine
‘DJ Chark doesn’t have the biggest college resume, but his pre-combine offseason is a nice addition to it. Chark had five catches for 160 yards and a touchdown at the Senior Bowl, then followed that up with an impressive combine. The Bills need a burner, which is a bit weird because the team is not far removed from having a roster which included Sammy Watkins, Marquise Goodwin and Robert Woods. They’d have that in Chark, if his 4.34 40 time, the fastest at the 2018 combine, is of interest. He also has some height at 6-foot-3, but does have a smaller frame.’
Jim Kelly gives inspirational speech days after learning cancer has returned again
‘But any concerns that Kelly might cancel in light of recent developments were immediately put to rest by the quarterback himself. “I go, ‘Hey, I’m not dead. If I can still go, I’m going,'” Kelly told the crowd, according to the Buffalo News’s Vic Carucci.’
Jim Kelly gives inspirational speech at Vince Lombardi Award of Excellence Dinner Ball
‘The Lombardi Foundation tweeted Saturday, “We cannot say thanks enough to our Award of Excellence Honoree, Jim Kelly. Thanks for fighting, inspiring & showing your strength & resilience to everyone here. Not only do we want to say thanks, but so did a bunch of Jim Kelly’s friends and brothers.”’
Bills are overdue to invest in franchise QB
‘If Tyrod was in their plans this would be a blip not a thing. They are polling GM’s around the league to find out what the market would be for a trade for Tyrod. If it doesn’t justify the $6 mil to buy that draft pick, Tyrod will be cut.’
NFL Scouting Combine: Josh Allen shows off big arm in QB work
‘Allen drew a rare burst of oohs-and-ahhs from NFL executives in the stands with a majestic, 67-yard bomb to Colorado State receiver Michael Gallup during the passing drills at Lucas Oil Stadium. That came right after a big, 60-yard throw to East Carolina’s Davon Grayson.’
Bucky Gleason: Every word must be measured to get Bills’ message
‘The Bills aren’t going to announce their strategy, of course, just like Taylor wouldn’t get under center on third-and-8 and announce that he’s going to drop back to pass, miss an open receiver over the middle and take off even though everyone in the stadium knows that’s exactly what is about to happen.’
Inside the Bills: What goes on in those 15-minute player interviews at the combine
‘“They’ve evolved over time, like all of this process,” McDermott said. “It used to be you just kind of went in with a couple questions and you’d get to know the player more on a broad-based surface level. Now it seems like it’s evolved to more watching film. A lot of teams seem to have gone that direction with watching film and drilling down as opposed to drilling out.”’
Jim Kelly gives inspiring speech at Lombardi cancer foundation dinner
‘”Hey, my surgery (for the removal of a tumor in his upper right jaw and reconstruction of his entire upper jaw) isn’t until the end of the month,” he said. “If the good Lord decides tomorrow’s my day, hey, I’m going out with a fish in one hand and a cup of beer in the other.”‘
Bills’ Lorenzo Alexander lends hand to local Alzheimer’s Association chapter
‘Linebacker Lorenzo Alexander is lending his expertise to the program as honorary chairman for the May 5 game that pits teams against each other based on hair color. The game also serves as a reminder of the toll Alzheimer’s takes not only on those living with a diagnosis, but care partners, family members, friends and co-workers.’
First impressions matter: Players need to be on the ball at NFL combine interviews
‘“It does answer a lot of questions for us,” Beane continued, “and it helps us to decide, when they walk out of the room, how much is there left that we have to get answered about this player? It’s a big part of the process; you can get a lot done in those 15 minutes.”’
6 reasons Matt Moore will be the Buffalo Bills’ starting quarterback in 2018
‘Matt Moore is very familiar with Buffalo’s offensive coordinator Brian Daboll. In 2011, Daboll was the Miami Dolphins’ offensive coordinator. Moore started 12 games under Daboll and completed 60.5 percent of his passes for 2,497 yards, 16 touchdowns and nine interceptions. Moore spoke glowingly of Daboll back in 2011 and said the offensive coordinator always had him prepared to play.’
Report: Bills not expected to be in sweepstakes for QB Kirk Cousins
‘The road of free agent Kirk Cousins is one of those that the Bills will be avoiding, reportedly. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Bills are not one of the four teams he believes will look to add Cousins.’
QB prospects ready to answer personality questions
‘Most outside observers see Baker Mayfield as a fiery leader who wears his emotions on his sleeve. It’s not hard to witness how into a game the Oklahoma quarterback is when he turns in a big play or finishes a scoring drive. He’s also not afraid to remind you.’
