The Bills frustrate the Dolphins, win 24-16

‘The Dolphins seem to be unraveling as time ticks away. Self-inflicted penalties galore here in the fourth quarter, mixed with a couple of Cutler turnovers has Miami handcuffed with 10 minutes left in this final quarter. Buffalo looks to officially cap off their final game at home this regular season with a huge inter-divisional victory.’

Bills win with workmanlike performance

‘That put the onus on Cutler and he just wasn’t up to the task. Cutler, who outplayed Tom Brady in a stunning win over the New England Patriots six days earlier, looked more like the Jay Cutler who has produced a .500 record in his not so illustrious NFL career. He flat out missed guys on a handful of throws including overthrows on deep balls where his target was open. One of those overthrown deep balls ended up in the hands of Jordan Poyer, one of three interceptions for the Bills defense.’

‘The reason the Bills were able to hold their lead was Cutler. In the second half, he threw passes that were so far off, they were intercepted. Jordan Poyer and Shareece Wright stopped drives with picks and Tre’Davious White came up with the biggest interception of the game.’

‘I’m not exactly sure what or why it is, but for some reason Taylor has some of his best games against the Dolphins. Sunday was no exception. He was on the mark, made good decisions, and a key reason why the offense was able to have arguably its best first half performance all season. He finished the game 17-for-29 for 224 yards, 1 TD pass and no interceptions. But it was the QB’s poise in the pocket, decision-making, inability to extend plays as he usually does that made a big difference. If there was any question about his knee injury impacting him in this one, he answered it. It didn’t.’

‘To the credit of offensive coordinator Rick Dennison, not only did he have a positive script to start off the game, he kept the Miami defense guessing throughout the rest of the first half as well. He used the strengths of his players against the weaknesses of the Dolphins defenders quite well, and it resulted in Tyrod Taylor’s best game since the team’s victory over the Oakland Raiders.’

‘”It’s tough, year in and year out to put on this jersey. Lacing up your cleats to come out here and play your A game,” Micah Hyde said. “He’s been doing it for 12 years in Buffalo where they’ve been struggling, haven’t been to the playoffs. To get him in the playoffs, that’s the ultimate goal.”‘

Pitoniak: Bills keep playoff alive in what might be Williams’ home finale

‘The win improved Buffalo’s home record to 6-2 – its best mark since 1999, the last season it made the playoffs. It also improved the Bills overall record to 8-6 and reinvigorated their playoff hopes. If the season ended today, they would be in. But the season doesn’t end today. The Bills have to play the Patriots in New England next Sunday. (The Patriots need that game to secure homefield advantage throughout the playoffs, so they will be playing their starters the entire game.) Buffalo then plays in Miami in the regular-season finale. Ten wins earns the Bills a playoff spot. Nine wins will make things a little dicey.’

Bills Get Big Home Win Over Dolphins 24-16

‘The biggest home game since the drought and they dominated most of the game before holding on late in the fourth quarter. The win keeps them alive through week 17 and who would have thought that would happen this year as some people were talking about a tank.’
