Any Bills fan who remembers Smith throwing three picks in the first several minutes against the Bills two years ago would argue that Smith isn't even a decent NFL backup.'

He now takes a knee in deference to the military, a practice that has caught on in many places across the country, including Rochester.'

'Journeymen don't usually play for one team, in this case Washington, for seven seasons and they certainly don't go to the Pro Bowl as Alexander did in 2012. Alexander has good reason to dislike being labeled as a journeyman.'

'It begs the question whether the Bills, who are on a three-game winning streak, can play as well as a big favorite. The Bills haven't been this big a favorite since 2009. Rex Ryan hasn't been this big a favorite since 2011. After three emotional wins, Ryan doesn't want his team thinking it gets a break against San Francisco.'

'"I think he's better," Whaley said. "The one thing you can definitely hang your hat on is he does not turn the ball over. The other thing that we're seeing now is like I said, he's doing whatever it takes to get this team to put points on the board. That's what it takes. Until they change the rules, if we score more points than the other team, let's just figure out a way to do that. So I think he's just continuing to get better and better. He's taking the team on his back in different ways."'
