'Spikes, 28, last played in the NFL for the Bills in 2014. He signed with the New England Patriots last year but was released last June as police investigated his role in a hit-and-run crash in Massachusetts. Spikes later pleaded guilty to multiple motor vehicle charges and received probation. The NFL suspended Spikes for the first four games of the 2015 regular season, which he spent out of football.'

'Depth at the position is thinning out following the loss of secibd round pick Reggie Ragland, who suffered a non-contact knee injury during Friday's practice. Fellow linebacker Jamari Lattimore sat out Saturday's scrimmage with a broken nose as did Kevin Reddick, who reportedly has a sprained MCL.'

'There was concern in his voice when he addressed the health of the the Bills second round pick prior to the team's scrimmage on Saturday.'

'Spikes hasn't played in an NFL game since he wore a Bills uniform in 2014. He played 16 games for Buffalo that season seeing most of his time on run downs at linebacker while also helping on special teams. Spikes had 53 tackles, three pass breakups and a sack that season. He turns 29 in September.'

''“It’s training camp,” said Little. “The goal is to get better every day and that’s really my concentration right now. I just come out here and try to build on what I did the day before. Trying to put days on top of days.”'

'“He’s been playing well since he got here,” Bills quarterback Tyrod Taylor said. “He fits in well. There’s the same type of attitude and mentality that we need from our offensive line.”'

'Left tackle Cordy Glenn suffered an ankle injury on the starting offense's second series. Glenn walked to the locker room under his own power, accompanied by a trainer. The team said the severity of the injury was still being determined Saturday night.'

'We want to get some work done this is a big night for our players. And, you know, next step and, you know, the progression and, you know, next week, obviously, the preseason game. And, quite honestly, some starters will probably play tonight more than they’ll play even in that first preseason game. So, it’s a big night, but with that being said it’s going to be a much shorter night than it was, you know, last year.'

'Linebacker Eric Striker is one key example. He gives every ounce he has in his smallish, 6-foot, 221-pound frame, and was challenging IK Enemkpali on an outside-linebacker depth chart shortened by the injuries to Shaq and Manny Lawson.'

'Taylor should take comfort knowing his value will skyrocket if he plays well under the extension. It would give him more leverage at the bargaining table in less time. Quarterback salaries will continue to soar. He could end up making much more money in the end.'
