'And the worst part about Buffalo’s defeat was that, Ryan’s thoughts to the contrary, the Bills weren’t ready, or just didn’t want to play yesterday.'

Bills left to ‘play out’ the season
'“There’s no question it doesn’t get much worse than this … but, as bad as it was, it wasn’t the lack of effort,” he maintained of the defeat by Washington. “There’s no quit in anybody in this locker room and that’s what I admire about us.'
Watkins grabs Bills’ reception mark in loss
'With his five receptions, wide receiver Sammy Watkins now has the Bills’ record for most catches in his first two seasons. Watkins has 109 receptions while Woods and Jerry Butler shared the previous mark with 105.'
Monday's Washington Coverage
Flat effort leaves Bills divided and conquered
'“We have two games to prove that we belong here,” Rex Ryan said after his team fell to 6-8 in his first year at the Bills’ helm, assuring him of a worse record than his predecessor, Doug Marrone, had in 2014. “That’s every coach, every player, everybody. And that’s just the reality of the business.”'
Mario Williams criticizes 'insurgents' in building, unsure on future in Buffalo
'Coach Rex Ryan said there could be drastic changes coming this off-season and one logical change would be to release Williams and free up money. He hasn't been a fit in Ryan's 3-4 defense with only four sacks this season. And on Sunday, Williams was a total non-factor with only one assisted tackle and no hits on Kirk Cousins. He says it's "obvious" changes are coming, adding, "You just wait and see if your number's called."'
Stat advantages belie the beatdown Bills took
'The Bills led in total yards, turnover margin and time of possession. They now are 84-6 (.933 winning percentage) in games when they win all three categories since 1983, as far back as ProFootballReference.com tracks time of possession.'
Watkins: ‘We need to call people out’
'“Once we get to that point and realize that you could get fired the next day – and make it known. Hey, this is your job. If you’re not going to do your job, cut him. It needs to be a business. And I think once we get to that, we need some nasty coaches. If they’re not doing their job, get them out of here. If I’m not doing my job, step to me and get me out of here.”'
Pegula may need a football czar to heal rifts within Bills
'It’s high time we heard from another, more prominent Pegula – Terry. Bills fans don’t need tweets from the children, they demand and deserve answers. After Sunday’s humiliation, Pegula has a pile of pressing questions to address after his team missed the playoffs for a 16th straight time.'
Vic Carucci’s Take Five: Low-grade effort defines Bills’ performance
'The defense put up virtually no resistance as Kirk Cousins threw for 319 yards and four touchdown passes, and ran for a 13-yard score. The Redskins also had a solid day of rushing as they put together a successful mix of outside throws with inside runs. The Bills’ pass coverage and tackling were beyond pathetic. The offense showed some life in the second half, but mostly piled up garbage yards. It failed to deliver when it had to – such as when it couldn’t punch it in on five shots (counting a penalty) from the 1-yard line late in the first half.'
Mark Gaughan’s matchup winners: Joe Barry’s ‘D’ much better than Rex’s
'Cousins outplayed Taylor because he was a little better throwing from the pocket. But let’s consider the degree of difficulty. Washington’s defense put far more pressure on the quarterback than Buffalo’s. Taylor was knocked around all day long, taking five sacks to just one for Cousins.'
Mark Gaughan’s 10 Plays: Cousins capitalizes on overload blitz
'Encroachment! Washington had no intention of snapping the ball on a fourth-and-1 play in the second quarter. Sure enough, Stefan Charles jumped. Four plays later, Cousins made it 14-0.'
On fourth downs, Ryan lets his inner gambler come out to play
'Our call: During the game, Terry and Kim Petula’s son, Matty, tweeted – and then deleted – a sarcastic message about how well the defense was playing in the first half. We can only imagine what he might have fired off if the Bills punted here.'
Report Card: Rex Ryan blames injuries yet again as Bills fall to 6-8
'Enough with the injury excuses. It’s beyond comical, trending toward troublesome. Yet again, Ryan groused about the Bills’ injuries at the podium. “It’s ridiculous the amount of injuries we’ve had,” Ryan said. “Is that contributing factor? Of course. And it would be a ridiculous if you don’t think it is.” Please. Give me a break. The Pittsburgh Steelers (9-5) and Kansas City Chiefs (9-5) lost both of their starting running backs for the season. Kansas City is missing its best pass rusher — and maybe the best pass rusher in football — in Justin Houston. The Steelers were without Ben Roethlisberger for five starts. You can play that game for days. Pointing to injuries is a convenient, lazy attempt to shield bigger problems at One Bills Drive.'
Coming Attractions: Injuries to Romo made Cowboys’ season go south
'The Cowboys’ acquisition of Matt Cassel in a trade with the Buffalo Bills earlier this season has been a disaster.'
