‘The Buffalo Bills had one of the best defenses in franchise history in 2014, and defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz deserves some credit for that. He didn’t have a great run as the head coach of the Detroit Lions, but he did manage to get the team back to the postseason. He’s surely itching for another head coaching job and would help maintain some stability through the transition.’

‘Reich got his first crack at being an offensive coordinator and calling plays in 2014, and he had mixed results. The Chargers looked like one of the best offensive teams in the league early in the season, but they faltered a bit due to injuries and other factors. Still, in terms of yards per game, San Diego’s passing offense was in the top 10. Overall, their offense ended up in the middle of the pack by most statistical measures.’

‘Update the scorecard: Bill Polian will be headed back to the Buffalo Bills and Buddy Nix is on his way out, according to a report by Jason La Confora of CBS Sports.’

‘While Marrone mulls his options during the final day of his opt out clause, Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports is reporting that the Oakland Raiders are interested bringing in Bills president Russ Brandon to fill the same role with their team.’

‘For the sixth time this century, Dysfunction Junction — aka the Buffalo Bills franchise — is in search of a new head coach, after the ultra-conservative Marrone exercised the out-clause in his contract on New Year’s Eve, six hours before the calendar flip.’

‘The Jets are likely to schedule an interview with Marrone, a Bronx native who served as the team’s offensive line coach for four seasons under Herman Edwards.”

‘”You got rid of Rex Ryan for this?” one Jets source told the News.’

‘A source said Marrone was concerned about possible changes in the Bills organization. It has been rumored that Pegula is going to bring in someone to oversee football operations, possibly Bill Polian. He wanted to know if that was true and who the person would be, but Bills ownership would not tell him.’

‘Marrone not only knows the AFC East, he has proven to be a no-nonsense disciplinarian who isn’t afraid to make the tough decisions.’

‘The Jets have five other coaches on their radar: Seahawks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn and Seahawks offensive line coach Tom Cable, who are scheduled to be interviewed this weekend; Cardinals defensive coordinator Todd Bowles, Ravens offensive coordinator and former Texans head coach Gary Kubiak, and Chargers offensive coordinator Frank Reich. Marrone now joins that list, and could be at the top of it.’

‘Nothing’s a done deal, of course; Marrone still hasn’t even interviewed. The Jets also still have to hire a general manager, and they have interviews lined up with five of the six candidates in which they’re confirmed to have interest.’
