‘Shanahan might be playing the Bills this time. The Raiders and 49ers are both said to be interested. Both teams have young franchise quarterbacks. But the Bills have a top defense, which might be enticing for Shanahan.’

‘The backs were not all to blame as the offensive line was too often unable to create any gaps to run through, but in general, all of the backs disappointed. The Bills surpassed 100 yards only eight times as a team – the high was 193 on opening day at Chicago, the next-highest was just 118 against the Vikings – and no back came close to 100 individually.’

‘Shurmur has previous head coaching experience with the Cleveland Browns. He spent two seasons in Cleveland, where he had a 9-23 record before getting fired. Prior to coaching the Browns, Shurmur spent 1999-2008 with the Eagles as a positional coach, and that helped him earn a job as the offensive coordinator in St. Louis, where he spent two seasons.’

‘Shanahan confirmed the meeting to ESPN’s Adam Schefter Monday. The Pegulas are obviously casting a wide net and aiming high in their coaching search. Shanahan, a three-time Super Bowl champion, last coached in 2013 for Washington.’

‘Part of what made Buffalo a tough spot to win was the lack of a quarterback. That would still be an issue with the Jets, who had Michael Vick and Geno Smith on their depth chart in 2014. But the Bears and Falcons both have better quarterback situations than the Bills and Jets.’

‘The only dates that are set in stone for Buffalo next season are the Oct. 25 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London and the bye week the following week. Other than that, the Bills just know who they will be playing and where.’

‘According to Josina Anderson of ESPN, the Oakland Raiders have also requested an interview with Hamilton. With the Colts still alive in the playoffs, a team will have to be patient to land Hamilton, but there is some interest around the league.’

‘Austin is not as seasoned as some of the other candidates the Bills will interview. This season is his first as a defensive coordinator in the NFL. He has never been a head coach at any level, either, so it may be a bit soon for him to make the jump to NFL head coach.’

‘Team officials, including owners Terry and Kim Pegula, interviewed the two-time Super Bowl-winning coach in San Francisco on Sunday, a person familiar with the search process told The Associated Press on Monday. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because the Bills have not released details of their search to replace Doug Marrone, who abruptly stepped down last week.’
