Bills could go from contenders to pretenders in a flash
‘”To spend time looking at what’s going on around you is really wasted energy,” coach Doug Marrone said Monday, reciting the age-old one-game-at-a-time mantra. “We need to spend time on ourselves and make sure we’re prepared to start this quarter against a good Kansas City team. We’d like to be in that discussion, and that’s what we’re working for, to be a team that gets on somewhat of a roll. Talking about it doesn’t get it done.”‘
Bills claim safety off waivers
‘The Bills announced on Monday evening that they successfully claimed Jerome Couplin off of waivers. Couplin was released by the Detroit Lions on Saturday, after spending the first eight games of the season on their active roster.’
Bills’ Jackson works out with trainers Monday
‘”There’s always a chance. We’ll see what the doctors say,” the running back said of suiting up for practice on Wednesday. “I’ll meet again with them [Tuesday], they wanted to see how things went today… and things went well today. I was able to move around on it a little bit. I’ll meet with them again in the morning and I think we’ll decide then.”‘

‘There are a number of interesting story lines that have emerged through the first half of the Buffalo Bills 2014 season but there’s no question which story is at the top of the list. The change at quarterback.’
Three non-injured Bills absent from practice Monday
‘Defensive tackle Marcell Dareus, wide receiver Mike Williams and rookie offensive linemen Cyril Richardson each were non-participants at Monday’s practice, and none of the trio missed due to injury. Dareus missed the session due to an issue with his flight back to Buffalo, while Williams and Richardson were away from practice due to what a team spokesperson called “personal reasons.”‘
Bills claim S Jerome Couplin from Lions
‘Couplin entered the league as an undrafted free agent earlier this year with the Detroit Lions. The 6-2, 215-pound William & Mary product appeared in eight games and accumulated two tackles during his time with the Lions this season. Couplin, 23 and a native of Washington, DC, has played primarily on special teams.’
Fred Jackson hoping to practice Wednesday
‘”We’ll see what the doctors say,” Jackson said following his Monday workout. “I’ll meet with them (Tuesday). They wanted to see how things went. Things went well today. I was able to move around on it a little bit. So I’ll meet with them again in the morning and I think we’ll decide then.”‘

A cut above the rest
‘Marrone’s decision to replace Manuel with Orton after only four games has paid major dividends. Besides giving the Bills a better starting quarterback, the move also went a long way toward enhancing the players’ faith in their coach with the real threat of the season going sideways after the Houston loss.’

‘MVP: Marcell Dareus, DT.’
Orton has time on his side
‘Which brings us to Orton. Considering the success of older quarterbacks, why couldn’t he play at a high level into his mid-30s, and become an interim franchise guy for the Bills?’
