‘Just like the Kansas City Chiefs were a fluke of an undefeated team around this time last year, the New York Jets look the part of a fluky 1-6 team. They have more talent than most will give them credit for and have played a very hard schedule over the first seven weeks. Second-year quarterback Geno Smith will not get the opportunity to throw at Justin Rogers like he did last year, but he also has better wide receivers this time around. This game will be determined by which defensive line and scheme is more dominant. That edge could go slightly to the Jets defensive line, who will be going up against the worst of the two offensive lines featured in this contest. Rex Ryan always has unique blitzes up his sleeve, so Kyle Orton could be forced into some poor throws as the game goes along. These teams are much closer than the records indicate so the edge, in a division game, is given to the home team.’

‘Last week, Chris Hogan was a hero in the final minute of the game when he caught a long ball from Kyle Ortonand landed on the 1-yard line to setup a Sammy Watkins touchdown to win the game. This week, Hogan will get a hero’s welcome not only for last week’s in-game heroics, but because it’s a homecoming for the New Jersey native. He’ll have 20 to 30 family and friends in attendance.’

‘The Jets simply have too much pass-rushing talent for even the best offensive lines to handle.’

‘”It’s awful hard to come in and, ‘Oh, by the way, here’s the offense; learn it in a week,’ ” Ryan said during a phone call with reporters covering the Bills. “I don’t know if that’s realistic. But we’ll have some plays for him, let him get back there and return a kick and things like that.’

‘”They’re both going to play, they’re both going to get some carries, and we’re going to go with that hot hand just like we do every week,” Hackett said.’

‘”It’s a roller coaster the whole season,” Hackett said. “He’s great. It’s just about being clear with everybody what we’re asking, where we want them to be. As long as we have a clear picture of that, everybody should be good. I think that as a coach, the minute that you hide what you’re feeling or hide how you feel, than nothing’s going to change. I think that just Mike has to keep working, keep understanding the system better, get a relationship with the new quarterback, which is different than the one he was with originally. All those other guys have to keep doing the same thing they’re doing. They have to keep on working, keep on progressing, so that everyone’s progressing.’

‘All week, Bills fans, fantasy owners and anyone else watching Buffalo closely has been wondering how coach Doug Marrone will divide carries between running backs Anthony Dixon and Bryce Brown. Dixon has been running with the starters and is in line to start, but Brown is the bigger threat to take a carry the distance. Oh, and the Jets are allowing just 3.6 yards per carry this season, so the Bills’ running game has its work cut out for it.’

‘Cornerback Ron Brooks was added to the list of players given the probable tag. He suffered a groin injury in practice and was limited, but it doesn’t seem to be serious.’
