‘”You handle it as if you were 6-1, you go about your job … the best job you can as a coach. You line it up each week and put everything you have into preparation and putting our players into a situation where we think they can be successful.”‘

‘”Have we seen the best of Chris Hogan?” Marrone asked. “I can’t answer that because he keeps getting better and stepping up every time. Every time you try to count him out a little bit if he doesn’t have the greatest day, the next day he’ll come back and you say to yourself, ‘Holy cow.'”‘

‘”I’m a little frustrated, but at the end of the day, that’s just part of the game we play,” Goodwin said. There is a “100 percent injury rate. We’re the only sport that’s like that. There’s not much too much, really, I can do about it. Being frustrated is not really going to help me get better, so I’m just going to try to move past it.”‘

‘A two-time all-ECAC selection as a midfielder, Hogan had a year of NCAA playing eligibility remaining after graduating from Penn State (he redshirted as a sophomore due to an ankle injury). He decided to scratch an itch and use it playing football somewhere as a grad student.’

‘”On a personal level, outside of the football, he’s a regular guy,” Bills coach Doug Marrone said. “You can go out in Buffalo and meet a guy with his personality anywhere. In a bar, in a bowling alley, in a pool room, in a place where your family is. Just a normal, regular guy. No ego. Highly competitive. That’s probably the thing you wouldn’t see until you watched him compete and saw how competitive he is, how hard he is on himself, how well he prepares. I think, generally, the people in this region would be able to at least understand him. He’s a lot like us and like people from here.”‘

‘Buffalo Bills wide receiver Marquise Goodwin again missed practice on Thursday with a hamstring injury he suffered last week, and his playing for status in Week 8 is again up in the air.’

‘”The two [defensive tackles] we’re going against are the best two in the league, next to [Detroit’s Ndamukong] Suh and [Nick] Fairley, hands down,” said right guard Willie Colon. “They’re game-wreckers, especially Kyle Williams. He’s been doing it so long. He’s definitely a guy you’ve got to scout for.”‘

‘Brown’s vision on the field is also an issue. Time and time again in Philadelphia, Brown would bounce a play to the outside, trying to get to the sideline as opposed to going straight up the gut and getting what is there. That frustrated Eagles’ coaches, and it had an impact on his playing time when he was the backup.’

‘Orton has been sacked on 9.5 percent of his drop-backs this season. All told this season, the Bills have allowed the 10th-highest sack percentage in the NFL, at 6.9.’

‘”Just watching him throughout all of last season, I was a fan of him last year,” he said. “He was in the ACC and I’m an ACC guy myself. He did a whole lot of things at Clemson and he’s doing them now.”‘
