Bills beat Lions on 58-yard field goal
‘Orton, a 10-year journeyman, went 30 of 43 for 308 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Orton set up the decisive score by hitting rookie Sammy Watkins over the middle for a 20-yard gain.’
Bills close Ralph Wilson era with 17-14 over Lions
‘”It means so much,” Bills president Russ Brandon said, noting that Mary Wilson and other members of the Wilson’s estate attended the game. “We always used to laugh that even in preseason, ‘You had better win in Detroit, it’s Ralph’s hometown.’ I’m just so happy for Mary. She’s the ultimate competitor.”‘
Bills’ Brooks stays in hospital after neck injury
‘He was hurt when colliding with Detroit’s Jerome Couplin. Couplin was attempting to block another Bills player and stumbled, hitting Brooks low. Brooks went flying into the air, spun upside down and landed directly on his head.’
Bills allege laser shined at players in Detroit
‘Marrone says quarterback Kyle Orton and holder Colton Schmidt informed him during the game they both had lasers shined at them. The team then followed league protocol by informing NFL security staff. Marrone said the issue was eventually resolved before the game ended.’
End of an era for the Buffalo Bills
‘Ralph Wilson lived in the Detroit area and fell in love with the NFL when his father first took him to a Lions game when they were still playing at Tiger Stadium. Wilson even held a small share in the Lions before he helped form the upstart American Football League and establish the Bills in Buffalo.’
Lions’ Calvin Johnson to play against Bills
‘Bills three-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Kyle Williams (right knee) and linebacker Nigel Bradham (left knee) are both listed as inactive. They were hurt in a 23-17 loss at Houston last weekend.’
Buffalo 17, Detroit 14
‘Kyle Orton, making his first start for Buffalo in place of a benched EJ Manuel, threw for 308 yards and a touchdown on 30-of-43 passing with an interception for the Bills (3-2), who snapped a two-game losing streak.’
Bills’ Brooks carted off field
‘He was attended to for several minutes on the field, and had a brace placed on his neck before being placed on a cart.’
Bills DT Williams sits against Detroit
‘Linebacker Nigel Bradham is also sidelined with a knee injury.’
Schwartz, Carpenter help Bills put boots to Lions
‘Running back Fred Jackson gained 50 yards on 11 carries and caught seven passes for 58 yards for the Bills and rookie receiver Sammy Watkins caught seven passes for 87 yards. Defensive tackle Marcell Dareus recorded a career-high three sacks.’
BIlls-Lions: What we learned
‘Kyle Orton might not be the long-term solution but he’s probably going to start at quarterback the rest of this season as long as he’s healthy.’
Ankle injuries drop Lions WR Johnson, RB Bush
‘Johnson caught one pass in a 17-14 loss to the Buffalo Bills and head coach Jim Caldwell said he had to leave the game because “he took a pretty good hit” to the ankle. Johnson, who missed multiple practices for the second consecutive week and has only three receptions for 19 yards the past two games, attempted to walk off the pain but was not able to come back for the Lions.’
Lions WR Johnson active vs. Bills
‘Johnson played last week’s game against the New York Jets but was mainly used as a decoy. He played just 37 of the team’s 66 offensive snaps and had only two catches for 12 yards.’
