‘”Thankfully Wilfork and Mayo are out so they’ll have to shuffle a couple of guys around,” Bills running back C.J. Spiller said, “but they’re still playing great football and still positioning themselves to get to the playoffs.”‘

Backup QB Thad Lewis to start in Bills’ finale
‘Lewis will make his fifth start this season and second straight following a 19-0 win over Miami. He has a 2-2 record and has thrown for three touchdowns and three interceptions since his promotion from the practice squad in early October.’
Playoff-bound Patriots face playoff-deprived Bills
‘”We just lost some heartbreaking games,” running back C.J. Spiller said. “We just have to find a way to be able to get over that edge and we will. We’ve got a great leadership group. We’ve got a lot of great guys coming back in the near future. We’re definitely going to get over that hump and make the Bills fans happy.”‘
Patriots set to face Bills
‘”I would say he’s a little more explosive – he’s more of a runner,” Talib said about Lewis. “EJ Manuel kind of runs around, he’ll throw it when he has to. Lewis, he kind of looks to run a little bit more.”‘
Bills QB Manuel to miss Sunday’s finale
‘Wide receiver Stevie Johnson (personal) and safety Aaron Williams (ribs) have been ruled out for Sunday’s game.’
Buffalo (6-9) at New England (11-4)
‘Patriots 27, Bills 19.’
Bills want to strengthen Manuel’s knees; Lewis to start
‘”At the end of the day I made a decision not to put him out there for no other reason because I thought Thad would give us the best chance to win this game with EJ’s injury not progressing.”‘
Bills QB Lewis gets start
‘Lewis is starting his fifth game of the year. He also started in place of Manuel last Sunday in beating the Miami Dolphins, completing 15 of 25 passes for 193 yards with an interception.’
EJ Manuel will not start Sunday for Bills
‘Officially, Manuel is listed as “doubtful” for the game against the Patriots, but the coach said despite that designation that Lewis would indeed be the starter. The injury is to the LCL in his left knee, but Marrone reiterated that as far as he knows it would not require a surgical procedure in the off-season.’
Three Bills Named to Pro Bowl
‘The NFL revealed its rosters for the 2014 Pro Bowl on Friday, including three members of the Bills. Mario Williams, Kyle Williams, and Jairus Byrd made the squad while Kiko Alonso and Marcell Dareus did not.’
Defensive trio earns Pro Bowl nod
‘The three defensive selections mark the first time since 2004 (Sam Adams, Nate Clements, Takeo Spikes) that a trio of Bills defenders have been selected to the league’s annual All-Star game.’
Thad Lewis hopeful his play can solidify his role
‘”Very fortunate just to be able to start one game in the NFL, but for it to be my fifth game with the Bills a great organization like this, I feel very fortunate and I’m excited about the challenge,” said Lewis. “It’s fun man. When you have a chance to play period, it’s fun no matter how it comes or how they dial it up or how they do things. If you just stay ready then you shouldn’t worry about how your opportunity presents itself.”
EJ Manuel doubtful for Sunday’s finale, Thad Lewis to make 5th start
‘”It was a tough decision,” Marrone said. “EJ was practicing hard all week trying to come back and basically it goes back to the injury didn’t progress as well as I wanted it to. He wanted to go out there and play, but I need him to play at 110-percent for us to win. So he wasn’t going to be able to go out there and play at 110-percent. He could have played but not at the level that we need for us to win. Thad has done a nice job and he’s the backup quarterback so we’re putting him in there and he’ll be the starter Sunday.”‘
