‘This package is what really seemed to fluster Manuel. The Jets played man coverage on the Bills receivers with one safety over the top. They didn’t do it on every play, but they did have plenty of success with it.’

‘The Jets punished Manuel to the tune of eight sacks. Even when the Jets could not get to Manuel, the pressure forced wild throws.

"Their all-out pressure gave us headaches," said Manuel. "They did everything we thought they would, as far as what we practiced during the week. You still have to relax, you don’t want to hurry unnecessarily. That’s when you throw errant passes."’

‘Yeah, the quarterback gets too much credit when a team wins and too much blame when it loses, but it seems to me that Manuel is being assessed too much responsibility for this loss.’

‘”They just had a good plan,” Spiller said. “They wanted me to bounce it. They were doing a great job of getting pressure and making some of the running lanes tough. … They pretty much put a lot of people in the box and dared our passing game to beat them.”‘

‘Manuel is the future. He’s a much better athlete than Fitzpatrick. But opposing defenses won’t respect him until he stands in and makes the throws. Until Manuel proves he can make the accurate throws down the field, he’s Fitz with more mobility and a bigger arm.’

‘The 6-foot-5, 301-pound Carrington is in the final season of his contract. The Bills and Carrington’s camp held substantive talks on a contract extension during the season, but ultimately could not come to an agreement. It remains to be seen how much this injury will affect his earning power in free agency.’

‘Over the past several years, the Bills have finished with near or more than 20 players on injured reserve, which is partly to blame for their lack of success.’

‘”The one thing I’ve realized my entire life is nobody has ever been able to beat the sideline,” Marrone told reporters in Buffalo on Monday. “We want to make sure we’re giving our players an opportunity to make those plays. Am I sitting here disappointed? Absolutely.”‘

‘”Some of the mistakes we made were terrible, myself included,” Wood said. “We obviously have to bounce back, but that was a game we kind of threw away.”‘
