‘”I know that with EJ we go into it every week with a plan and a process to get him prepared to play against whatever opponent it may be,” said Marrone. “Maybe some of the schematic things we’ll have seen. Obviously there’s a foundation to those systems, but you have to be ready on game day for the unexpected, what may change or what their plan is and how to attack it.”‘

‘”When you’re playing a zone team, you kind of fit in the spots, it’s easy little shots,” Hackett said. “But when you’re playing a man team, you’ve got to create separation and have an accurate ball. I’m not saying you don’t always have to be accurate, but in this situation it’s even more. It’s always going to be a little bit tight. You’re always going to be contested every single time you throw the ball.”‘

‘”It doesn’t matter what the situation, I want to go fast,” he said. “We’ve had some times where we could have been much faster, so we’re not even close to where we want to be. My goal is to get it under 20. That’d be awesome.”‘

‘The Jets defense this year under Dennis Thurman, the secondary coach of the past couple seasons, is younger and faster. The defensive line has upgraded and the linebacker corps has gotten more speed. It doesn’t have as many big names as years past, but it might be a better unit than the one a season ago. I think this could be a top-eight defense in the league by the end of the year and with a playmaker or two brought in during free agency, could be a dominant group.’

‘”He’s a guy who’s not going to turn the ball over,” Cromartie said of his fellow Seminole. “He’s a very confident guy who understands what he wants to do. He’s a guy that wants to make sure he takes control of his offense, and that’s exactly what he’s been doing these past few games.”‘

‘The Bills have struggled on the road in recent years. Buffalo hasn’t had a winning road record since 1999, when it finished 5-3 away from home. That was the last time the Bills made the playoffs, with Buffalo’s current 13-year postseason drought the longest in the league.’

‘Meanwhile, offensive lineman Doug Legursky (knee), cornerbacks Stephon Gilmore (wrist) and Ron Brooks (foot), kicker Dustin Hopkins (groin) and wide receiver Marquise Goodwin (hand) have been ruled out for Sunday’s game.’

Even though Gilmore, Goodwin and Hopkins got some work in this week with team trainers, they still have some time to go before they return from their respective injuries.’

‘The Bills improved their third down efficiency last week converting on 43 percent of their opportunities (6-14), but they face a top five third down defense in the Jets. New York opponents are converting just over 29 percent of their third downs (29.4%).’

‘Manuel went 27-of-39 for 296 yards and the game-winning TD to lead a 24-23 fourth-quarter comeback against the Carolina Panthers at Ralph Wilson Stadium.
