‘”We expect a lot out of ourselves,” said Wood. “We expect to get better each day out here, through camp and during the season. We expect high performance throughout the year. I think we have a really good group up front and if we continue to get better, I don’t think we will miss a beat this year and we’ll be able to get back to where we were.”‘

Former Bills receiver Andre Reed working with Chiefs in training camp
‘Reed chose to spend training camp with the Chiefs instead of Buffalo, the team he helped reach four Super Bowls, though he’s certain that Bills fans would have loved to see his return. Reed wasn’t so sure if it would be a good fit for him, because the Bills – who face the Chiefs in November – have a new head coach in Doug Marrone.’
Bills are off so let’s reflect
‘The topic of conversation is always going to center around Kevin Kolb and E.J. Manuel. In my mind Manuel has badly outplayed Kolb. Marrone disagrees, “We’re very happy with Kevin. He’s done a nice job, it’s the execution where he wants to go. He has to make better decisions. He needs to improvement from a standpoint, really from him, the protection, the receivers getting open, but as far as someone who has a really good background in the style of offense that we’ve done, as far as the tempo, so for him, really all three quarterbacks have handled that well, which is different.”‘

Young safeties benefiting from Byrd’s absence
‘”We knew Byrd wasn’t going to be back in time so whatever opportunity we get we just look to make the best of it,” Searcy said.’
Depth at receiver allows Bills’ Johnson to do inside job
‘”I got talent around me, you know?” Johnson said. “I’m not stupid to the fact we’ve got burners. We’ve got guys who can run and stretch the defense.”‘
Rest, treatment prescribed for foot of Bills’ Mario Williams
‘Asked if he was worried if the foot injury could linger, Williams said: “No, I’m not worried at all. I just think it’s not that serious. I understand and I appreciate the concern and I know I’m on your mind. I’m alright.”‘
Putting on the blitz
‘The Bills’ defense continues to throw lots of blitzers at the quarterback.’
Buffalo Bills’ Marcell Dareus overcomes personal pain
‘”It kind of took a lot out of me, knowing my mom wasn’t really there like I wanted her to be,” he said. “I didn’t have anybody that I could really talk to. I still had to come out here and play and give my all knowing that my mind wasn’t really there like I wanted it to be.”‘

Bills aim to solidify receiving corps
‘”I think basically what we are looking for is that type of consistency at that position,” said Doug Marrone, Bills head coach. “I’ve seen the progress. We’ve got a lot of young guys out there that are really progressing well and now it’s a matter of being consistent.”‘
McKelvin back in first-team role
‘”He made a heck of a play today with the comeback (route),” Marrone said. “He really came out there and we really think he has some fine skill. When you’re out for that long, it takes some time. He’s really coming along nicely.”‘
Tennessee Titans’ Ryan Fitzpatrick adjusting to life as a backup
‘”Earlier in my career I was a backup still trying to learn things, watching that starter who was always older than me and trying to figure out how to emulate him and takes tips from him,” Fitzpatrick said. “Jake and I have that same positive relationship, but it is also taking that experience I have and trying helping him along the way, too. So far, it has been good.”‘
Meet the Thrill-a-Minute Bills
‘Manuel will be the choice) for Buffalo. But Manuel looked comfortable, confident, strong-armed and accurate Monday. The Bills invested a first-round pick in him, and it would be surprising if Kolb can hold him off for very long-if he holds him off at all.’
Prepared rookie Manuel looks to get nod at QB
‘There could be nine new starters when the season opens at home against the Patriots. The Bills have started fast in years past and faded down the stretch, partially because of roster depth and quarterback play. This team may get better as the season continues and young players grow. The buzz around the Bills will be about the 2014 season as this team goes 7-9 this year.’
