‘”What I’ve liked about the kid is, we had a scrimmage and he threw an early interception but he was able to come back” Marrone said. “He goes into his first ever game and we were happy with his decision making process early on in that game, the managing of the game. Then you start to see the comfort level coming in, its eight for eight in the two minute drive and you’re going ‘oof’, here we go. I see a player that’s progressed and developed quite quickly.”‘

Cornerback still unresolved issue for Bills
‘”Schematically it’s tough for our corners,” the defensive coordinator said Tuesday. “Most of the time they’re locked up one-on-one outside. We don’t play a lot of Cover-2. It’s rare that they have that safety protection over the top, so that’s a challenge for our guys.”‘
Day 13 practice notes
‘It was also the second straight day the oldest quarterback on the roster was back to practicing in full with the team. He, along with many others on the field at St. John Fisher College left lasting impressions based on their performances Tuesday.’
Cornerback still unresolved issue for Bills
‘”We’ve had about six guys over there… and that’s all me,” said defensive backs coach Donnie Henderson. “I’m just trying to give our guys different looks to see how they work with different rotations so to speak. That’s what I’m doing right now. Experimenting a little bit.”‘
Bills-Vikings preseason game blacked out
‘The Kids Day game will kick off with a youth-themed tailgate party including interactive games, face painting, a magician, a live animal show and much more. Kids will receive an exclusive gameday giveaway as they enter the stadium, and have the chance to visit with Buffalo Jills Cheerleaders and Billy Buffalo. The game will conclude with a postgame fireworks show.’
Practice Notes – Aug. 13th
‘”The players have come in and we played a game on Sunday we’ve had really two good days of work,” said Marrone. “You can see it a little bit with the soreness. There’s nothing major to report, just a lot of soreness and trying to see who we can get back for this game on Friday. With practice this morning we have a large recovery time, we don’t practice again until tomorrow night. My message to the players was to make sure to stay off their feet, make sure they’re getting their treatments knowing it’s the toughest stretch of camp they’ll have.”‘
Doug Marrone: ”This is the toughest stretch of camp”
‘Now, there’s a large recovery time coming on since we don’t practice until tomorrow night. My message to the players was to make sure to stay of your feet, make sure we’re getting our treatments–knowing that this is the toughest stretch of camp.’
Mike Pettine: ”I thought our guys flew around today”
‘I’ve got to peek at the tape, but at first glance I just like the energy our guys had today. It would be easy to come out after we played Sunday, practiced yesterday and then came out again today, for guys to be dragging a little bit. We’ve done a good job. The assistants have done a good job making sure their guys energized and ready to go. I thought our guys flew around today pretty good.’
Nathaniel Hackett: ”There’s a lot of room for improvement”
‘I think when you look at EJ (Manuel), he was very excited. I mean, heck, as a rookie you come in your first game and you’re on the minus two yard line. That’s one of those things where I’m sitting up there going, are you serious? First drive of your career both of us and there he is on the two-yard line. And I thought his demeanor was great out there. He was a little bit fired up I think. You could kind of feel it. But once he settled down and got to play how EJ wants to play, I think you’ve kind of seen him come into his own. And it was really pleasing to see that kind of the stuff earlier didn’t bother him. He just wanted more reps and keep going out there. And I appreciate that from EJ.’
P Brian Stahovich released by Bills
‘Powell was the more physically gifted punter and just had to demonstrate a level of consistency in his kicking to hold onto the job. He also showed well on some holds for the field goal kickers handling a couple of snaps that weren’t on target.’
Manuel takes first step towards Bills’ starting job
‘Overall, it was a very solid outing from Manuel and the first step – certainly not the last – in securing the starting quarterback job for the Bills.’
Yep, this is a different year for the Buffalo Bills
‘NFL teams, traditionally, don’t have that sort of workout the day after a game … instead focusing on film study, weightlifting and conditioning maintenance exercises. Not Marrone’s Bills.’
Kolb playing catch-up in bid to start at quarterback for Bills
‘”I think we’re taking it slowly and carefully,” Kolb acknowledged. “But I’m trying to push the envelope a little bit. I’m trying to get out there and get a little part of this fun.”‘
Tuel has nothing but praise for his receiving corps
‘”It’s pretty easy with the crop of receivers we have,” Tuel said, referring to his confidence. “It’s unbelievable. All the coaches have said the amount of talent we have on this roster. I think you’d be stupid not to give them a shot out there because I think we’re going to win those battles. It’s the trust I have in the receivers. You have to take those shots when they’re given to you.”‘
Goodwin flashes his speed
‘Receiver Marquise Goodwin again made the play of the day, catching a 55-yard touchdown bomb from Jeff Tuel. Goodwin had a 107-yard kickoff return for a touchdown against the Colts on Sunday.’
