‘Here is how all the positions shake out…’.

Bills’ Kolb excused from scrimmage
‘Because of that first-round pick EJ Manuel will receive all the first-team repetitions during the session, while undrafted rookie Jeff Tuel will take all the work with the second and third units.’
Bills’ Troup thought he’d never be able to play again
‘”I started rehab a week after my surgery and honestly I didn’t know if I was ever going to be able to do this again” Troup said. “When I got out of surgery, that hardest thing for me to do was when they wanted me to get up and walk 50 feet. I tell you, I struggled so much to walk 50 feet, it was just going through my head ‘am I going to be able to get back and play football’? The doctor told me I would never be back to 100% where I used to be but I’ve worked really hard to get as close as I can.”‘
EJ’s Slow Start
‘Let’s keep it in perspective. E.J. Manuel is not Andrew Luck or Robert Griffin the Third. He’s not nearly that refined as a rookie. For those expecting instant results, it was a reality check. It probably was for E.J. too.’
Doug Marrone: ”We still have a lot of work ahead of us”
‘I was excited. I thought we got a lot of work in. We had over, I believe, 100 plays. I was happy how we got after each other out there. I think what you saw early on was, again, the one thing you do get concerned about when you don’t go live tackling in the practices even though we did go on the goal line in the short yardage period a couple days ago. During the beginning, I thought we didn’t tackle as well. I thought we really picked it up at the end. And then there were a lot of things out there that I was pleased with, but like I told the players afterwards, we still have a lot of work ahead of us. And we’ll watch it. They need to come back and they need to be ready to go. As long as they understand that, we’re going to be in good shape.’
EJ Manuel: ”I didn’t start out how I wanted to”
‘Well definitely any time you face adversity, your teammates are going to look at you and see how you respond. See if you just go in the tank and can’t make any more plays the rest of the day. The biggest thing for me was to show that I could fight back and move past it. Obviously, that’s not going to be the last interception I throw in my career. It happens. The good thing is it’s against my own teammates. You just have to fight back and learn from it.’
QB Jeff Tuel: ”I had a blast out there”
‘I think what went right was that the receivers are making good plays for me. It’s my job to get it to them, but the offensive line picked up some really tough blitzes and did a lot of good things. My receivers made plays. We’re kind of getting a relationship in learning from each other and learning each other and where to put the ball and such. It’s starting to come together.’
Practice Notes – Aug. 5th
‘”I was excited. I think we got a lot of work in. I believe over a hundred plays,” said head coach Doug Marrone. “I was happy with how we got after each other out there. I think what you saw early on, the one thing you do get concerned about when you don’t go live tackling in the practices, even though we did go in the goal line and short yardage period a couple of days ago, I thought in the beginning we didn’t tackle as well and then we picked up at the end.’
QB Kolb won’t participate in live scrimmage
‘Kolb has a death in the family and has been excused from training camp to attend the funeral. No word from the club at this point as to when the quarterback will return to the team.’
Lindell, Hopkins focused on form, not competition
‘”You just go out there and you do the best you can and you focus on what you can control,” Hopkins said. “If you’re focused on what somebody else is doing, you’re probably not going to be worried about what you need to be worried about going into a kick.”‘
