‘Now I can imagine some issues in applying this to football. For starters, baseball is comparatively simple. When on offense, players hit and run. There’s strategy, sure, but not the intricate X’s and O’s nor the positional responsibilities that you find in football. But still, I’m sure someone with expertise in those X’s and O’s could devise an approach that identified undervalued statistics and pursues under-recognized players who excel in those areas.’

‘The Bills are eager to find a young quarterback for next season, and Fitzpatrick is due to make $7.45 million in 2013. That includes a $3 million bonus he would get in March. It’s not an exorbitant salary for a starting quarterback, but it is exorbitant for a quarterback who is 22-41-1 for his career and who would be keeping the starter’s seat warm for whichever young QB the Bills draft.’

‘Tim Tebow will serve as the No. 2 QB versus the Bills. Tebow missed the Jets’ 11th, 12th and 13th games because of a rib injury. He was on the field for only eight snaps in the 14th game, against Tennessee. He did not play against San Diego. Tebow has just 32 rush attempts and eight pass attempts this season.’
