‘The Harvard graduate was among the NFL’s early-season, feel-good stories last year after getting the Bills off to a 5-2 start. He’s since gone 4-13, and has the Bills (3-5) in jeopardy of falling out of the playoff picture.’

‘Welch has been a free agent since being released by Philadelphia before the start of this season. He was selected in the seventh round of the 2010 draft by New England. Welch has appeared in eight games split between the Patriots and St. Louis.’

‘Brady is 19-2 against Buffalo, completing 65.3 percent of his passes for 5,170 yards, 49 touchdowns – his most against any team – and 17 interceptions for a 103.4 rating.’

‘Gailey said both Terrence McGee and Erik Pears will require more surgery. Gailey said, “I think that all guys reach some point where they ask the question and you ask the question and you sit down and you see can a guy get health get healthy enough to help your football team.”‘

‘”The doctor said there’s a slight tear. I don’t know the severity of it, but obviously it was something that caused me not being able to use it, but you have to ask for exact verbiage from the training staff.”‘

‘There was room on the roster following the release of kicker John Potter and the placement of offensive tackle Erik Pears and cornerback Terrence McGee on season-ending injured reserve.’

‘Ryan has played extremely well at times, and I am going to go back to that word consistency that I have been using for our whole football team. We have not been consistent at a lot of places. I think that over the last couple of weeks he has completed almost 70-percent of his passes. Playing better and I think that if we can get everything working together like we need to and it is my responsibility to get done, then I think we will be fine there. We have shown spurts and we have shown glimpses of what we can be, but we have to do it on a consistent basis.’

‘First and foremost they’re a team that has won this division the most in the past 10, 12, 15 years. They have been constantly on the top of this so we know that it is always important to play those guys. Since I have been here it has always been a huge game for us. This week is no different for us. To get to where we have to be this is a must win for us. We get a great chance to go into a great place that we haven’t won in a long time and turn this thing around. It is a huge focus for us. We can’t lose any more games and expect to do things that we want to get done. Everybody is focused on that. We know it is going to be a huge test for us but we feel like we can play with these guys. We just need to finish games, so hopefully we can get that done.’

‘Yeah, I think the biggest thing for us is going out there and just playing fundamentally sound. We let a few slip away from us last week as far as the defense. Clean that up, be in our gaps, be in our responsibilities and be accountable to one another.’

‘I’m not really too sure as far as the game plan is concerned where I fit in at. I’m just going to do what they ask of me. If that’s possibly going out and playing special teams or on offense, I am willing to do it.’

‘Butler joins the Bills from the Arizona Cardinals’ practice squad. He spent a portion of this season on the 53-man roster of the Cardinals and Washington Redskins. The 6-1, 191-pound Clemson product entered the NFL as a fifth-round (164th overall) draft choice of Pittsburgh in 2010. He has appeared in eight career games.’
