‘But realistically, it’s become painfully obvious that it’s time to pull the plug on the notion that Fitzpatrick can lead the Bills to anything substantial in terms of a long-awaited playoff run.’

Conference Call: Bills Head Coach Chan Gailey
‘People have been getting to the edge on us. And when we get to the edge, we miss tackles. Most of the time when people do not play the run well it is because of missed tackles and the two games that people have run the most on us we have missed more tackles than the rest of the games combined. That has been our biggest issue, missing tackles when they get out on the edge.’

Merriman excited to get second chance with Bills
‘Preparing for his first practice with the Bills in two months on Wednesday, the pass-rushing specialist sheepishly explained why his face was conspicuously sunburnt. It happened about 10 days ago when he fell asleep on the beach after finishing a workout at his home in Miami.’
AFC East fit to be tied with 4 in first – and last
”’It looks like the NFL has achieved what they set out to do,” Bills coach Chan Gailey said. ”You hope there’s parity and people have to fight their way to the top and that’s what you try to do. It looks like it’s worked out.”’
Titans-Bills Preview
‘”We were away from the distractions and it was just us here in Arizona,” said Byrd, the AFC defensive player of the week. “It was a chance for us to soul search, get corrected what we needed to get corrected without the distractions of being at home. It was great for us mentally.”‘
Bills welcome back Merriman to practice
‘”I’m excited, man,” said the freshly re-signed defensive end. “Just being back in the building with these guys and not having to text them every week after games just seeing how everyone was doing. But I’m definitely glad and happy to be back in the building.”‘
Status of Bills’ Urbik, Johnson still up in the air
‘”No. They’re gonna be out there and do something today,” he said. “But, we still have to see how they do, how they recover for tomorrow — all of that so it’s not any clearer. But at least they’ll be out there doing something today.”‘
Upon Further Review- Bills LBs, RBs & TEs vs Cardinals
‘Observations: Fred Jackson bounced back from a fumble on his first carry of the game to help the team in a few different ways. He really excelled a pair of times in pass protection to give Ryan Fitzpatrick more time to throw the ball. He also had some tough runs that got yardage that most running backs wouldn’t get. However, he hasn’t gotten back to being the complete Fred Jackson we’re accustomed to since the injury. He remains the best option on the goal line, and exhibited that against Arizona.’
Shawne Merriman: ”I knew I could still play”
‘Yeah, I was still being able to talk to the players a whole lot and just the people in general that you talk to around the building that not necessarily on the team or part of the coaching staff that you build a relationship with people in the building and keeping in contact with them was key.’
Fitzpatrick: ”I’ve not started the way I wanted to”
‘I think right now we are still trying to find ourselves in the passing game. A lot of that is me just playing more consistent. That is where we are at right now. We are 3-3, we have shown that we can run the ball, we can run the ball with more guys in the box than we have blockers just because of how talented we are in the backfield and I think as an offense we are still trying to figure ourselves out in terms of being able to balance the run and the pass.’
Chan Gailey: ”We are going to take some shots”
‘I think it is too early in the year to get bent out of shape about it. You cannot fall too far behind, as we all know. At the same time, when you are sitting there even it does help. You know that you are in charge of your own destiny. When you can be in charge of your own destiny that is all you can ask for in this business.’
Jairus Byrd named AFC Defensive Player of the Week
‘With his two interceptions, Byrd moved past Billy Atkins (15) into 17th place on the team’s all-time list. The Oregon product is currently tied for the AFC lead with three interceptions this season.’
CB Brooks expected to practice
‘The LSU product said the initial injury likely happened early in training camp, but he played in three preseason games logging eight tackles, three pass breakups including an interception. Then two days before the final preseason game he could not put any weight on the foot.’
Outsiders, not players, question Gailey’s decisions in win
‘”I respect coach Gailey so much, first as a man, even before a football coach. His outlook on life, how dedicated he is, he did a great job,” Scott said. “Everyone has counted us out, and he’s the one who put things back in perspective. He’s like, ‘Look, this is where we stand. The season is far from over for us. There’s so much football left to be played. Don’t let the naysayers get in our heads.’ Seeing a leader like that, how can you not stand behind that?”‘
